Arnold Fans 13, Improves to 7-0 in Keystone’s Win at Centenary

Ross and Eady collect three hits apiece in triumph over Cyclones

Great Meadows, N.J. – Jesse Arnold (Stuart, FL/Port Saint Lucie) improved to 7-0 on the mound this spring after striking out 13 batters in seven innings to lead Keystone College to a 7-1 victory over Centenary College in a Colonial States Athletic Conference baseball game played at the Allamuchy Green Acres Park.  The Giants improve to 25-8 on the spring and 10-3 in league action while the Cyclones see their record drop to 17-11 overall and 7-6 in the CSAC.

Keystone took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning of Friday's contest as Nate Ross (Albuquerque, NM/La Cueva) homered to right field to extend his hitting streak to 14 games before Tony Hunter II (Atlanta, GA/South Effingham) scored on a Robbie Nardelli (Eynon, PA/Valley View) double down the left field line.

The Giants opened up a 6-0 advantage with four runs on three hits and one Centenary error in the visitor's fifth.  Randy Torres (Bronx, NY/All Hallows) scored on a Chris Triano (Greenwich, CT/Rye) single before Brandon Eady (Bowie, MD/DeMatha Catholic) came around to score on a Cyclones' error following a double steal.  Ross drove in Triano with a ground-rule double before coming home with Keystone's sixth run on a balk.  Alex Herceg (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) drove in Ross with a single in the seventh inning to close out the scoring for Keystone.

Kevin Sensale broke up the Giants' shutout bid with a solo home run off relief pitcher Dan Maguire (Ocean Township, NJ/Ocean Township) in the bottom of the eighth inning, but that was the only offense the Cyclones were able to must on the day.

Arnold scattered five hits and walked four in a strong, seven-inning start while Sensale was the only batter to record a hit against Maguire, who picked up one strikeout in the final two innings on the hill.

Ross and Eady had three hits apiece to lead the Giants with Ross driving in a pair of runs.  Nardelli added a pair of doubles for the visitors, who outhit the Cyclones by a 13-6 margin.

Centenary starter James Graziani was charged with the loss after yielding six runs on nine hits while striking out three batters in 4.2 innings and the Cyclones used four pitchers out of the bullpen to get through the remainder of the game.

The hosts received their six hits from six different players in the loss to the Giants.

Keystone and Centenary will close out their regular season series with a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon in La Plume.  First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at Christy Mathewson Field.
