Keystone Claims Regular Season Series From Gwynedd Mercy With 11-4 Win

Arnold improves to 5-0 on mound; Triano and Eady combine for seven RBIs

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. – Jesse Arnold (Stuart, FL/Port Saint Lucie) improved to 5-0 with a strong, eight-inning outing on the mound while Chris Triano (Greenwich, CT/Rye) and Brandon Eady (Bowie, MD/DeMatha Catholic) combined to drive in seven runs to lead Keystone College to an 11-4 victory over Gwynedd Mercy University in a Colonial States Athletic Conference baseball game on Wednesday afternoon.  The Giants improve to 13-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play by taking the regular season series from the Griffins (11-10, 4-2 CSAC) after the two teams split a doubleheader on Saturday in La Plume.

Keystone took a 1-0 lead in the first at-bats of the game as Triano drove in Eady with a sacrifice fly to centerfield for the game's first run, but Gwynedd Mercy countered with a run in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI single to level the score at one-apiece.

The Giants went back in front in the top of the third inning as Eady ripped a two-run double that brought home Julian Lanfranco (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) and Louis Reyes (Port St. Lucie, FL/Treasure Coast) before coming around to score on a wild pitch as the hosts took a 4-1 lead.  The Griffins countered with a pair of runs in their half of the inning to make it a one-run ballgame.

Keystone pushed their lead to 5-3 in the visitor's fifth when Reyes hit a triple and scored on an error by the Griffins before breaking the game open with four runs on two hits, three walks, and one error in the top of the seventh inning.  Eady drove in his third run of the game with another RBI double before Triano launched a three-run home run, his second of the season, to give the Giants a 9-3 cushion.

Nate Ross (Albuquerque, NM/La Cueva) drove in Billy Nelson (Moscow, PA/North Pocono) with a sacrifice fly before Triano scored on an error by the Griffins, who closed out the scoring with a run in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Arnold turned in another solid start on the mound, allowing three runs on just five hits while striking out five batters in eight innings of work.  Jeffrey Ledesma (Yonkers, NY/Norman Thomas) yielded one run on three hits to go along with a pair of strikeouts in the ninth inning to close out the victory.

Triano went 2-3 with a walk, four RBIs, and two runs scored while Eady went 3-4 at the plate with 3 RBIs and three runs scored. Reyes extended his hitting streak to 18 games with a pair of hits while Nelson also had two hits for Keystone, who outhit Gwynedd Mercy by a 13-8 margin.

Zach Dennis suffered the loss on the mound for the Griffins after allowing five runs on five hits in five inning on the mound and the hosts used three relievers to get through the final four innings.  Dave Tatoian went 2-4 with a pair of RBIs while Beau Fleming added a pair of hits for Gwynedd Mercy in the loss.

Keystone is scheduled to be back in action tomorrow afternoon with a non-conference game at Moravian College.  First pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 4:00 p.m. in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
