La Plume, Pa. – Rosemont College used a late, 12-3 run to pull away with a 98-89 victory over Keystone College in a Colonial States Athletic Conference men's basketball tilt on Saturday afternoon in the Gambal Athletic Center. The Ravens move to 8-9 overall and 6-4 in conference play with the win while the Giants slide to 5-11 overall in 2-8 in the CSAC.
Rosemont built a 16-8 lead over the first 6:10 of Saturday's contest before Keystone used a 10-2 run to tie the game at 18-apiece midway through the half on a layup by
Perry Belcher (Orlando, Fla./Colonial). The Giants claimed a 28-25 lead on a lay-in from
Eric Hardaway (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) with 5:33 showing on the clock, but the Ravens countered with a 15-3 run to stake out a 40-31 advantage.
The hosts pulled back to within three points, but Rosemont took a 45-39 lead into halftime after getting a three-pointer just before the buzzer.
Kyle Lafferty scored 13 points to lead Rosemont while Jamier Hughes netted seven points in the opening 20 minutes for the Ravens, who shot 44.4 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from three-point range, and 81.8 percent from the free throw line in the half.
John Kirkpatrick (Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast) led all players with 15 points while Belcher tallied 13 points in the first half for Keystone.
ShaShawn Drayton (Monticello, N.Y./Monticello) added five rebounds and three blocked shots for the Giants, who connected on 63 percent of their attempts from the floor in the stanza while going 1-9 from beyond the arc and 4-5 from the stripe.
Keystone used a 16-4 burst early in the second half to swing in front, 57-51 when
Mark Gilliam (Philadelphia, Pa./High School of the Future) hit back-to-back three-pointers. The two teams swapped the lead six times over the next 10 minutes with Gilliam connecting from downtown to give Keystone an 82-80 edge with 4:28 left in regulation.
The Ravens answered Gilliam's trey with a 12-3 run to claim a 92-85 advantage with 1:42 remaining. The Giants pulled to within four on a pair of made free throws by
Ray Mills (Philadelphia, Pa./Overbrook) with just over a minute remaining, but the Ravens answered with a three-pointer on their next possession to ice the game.
Hughes and Clayton Wolfe netted 20 points apiece to lead Rosemont with Wolfe dishing out 10 assists for a double-double. Lafferty (18), Khai Roberts (14), and Alex Epps-Ortiz (10) also reached double-figures for the Ravens, who finished the game shooting 50.7 percent from the field, 37 percent from long distance, and 70 percent from the line. The visitors forced the Giants into 19 turnovers while giving the ball away just nine times of their own.
Belcher scored a game-high 23 points to go along with six assists for Keystone while Gilliam totaled 21 points. Kirkpatrick netted 17 points to go along with seven rebounds while Drayton tied for a game-high with 10 boards to help the Giants hold a 42-30 advantage on the glass in the contest.
The Giants finished the afternoon hitting on 54.1 percent of their shots from the floor while going 32 percent from three-point land and 78.9 percent from the line.
Keystone will host #23 Neumann University on Wednesday night in CSAC tilt starting at 8:00 p.m. in the Gambal Center.
