Wilkes-Barre, Pa. – Keystone College suffered a pair of non-conference losses on Friday at Wilkes University's Colonel Clash, dropping three-set decisions to Moravian College and Catholic University. The Giants (9-15) will now look to snap a three-match losing skid on Saturday at home against Manhattanville College.
Match 1 vs. Moravian
In Friday's opening match against Moravian (13-12), the Greyhounds won a tight first set 25-22 before taking a 2-0 advantage with a 25-15 victory in the second set. Moravian closed out the win with a 25-19 triumph in game three.
Mary Zacher put down a match-high 16 kills for the Greyhounds in the victory while Victoria Kauffman led all players with 30 assists. Jean Markovic picked up 11 digs to lead Moravian, which posted a .221 hitting percentage as a team in the victory.
Taylor Beatty (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) paced Keystone's attack with six kills,
Nathalie Ortiz (New Milford, N.J./New Milford) had five kills, and
Shannon Monahan (Manalapan, N.J./Freehold),
Victoria Homfeld (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge), and
Amanda Hardy (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) added four kills apiece.
Malley Bowen (Owego, N.Y./Tioga Central) led the Giants with 23 assists while Homfeld picked up a match-leading 15 digs.
Kristen Larkin (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) served up three aces while Beatty added three blocks for Keystone against the Greyhounds.
As a team, Keystone recorded a .105 hitting percentage in the setback to Moravian.
Match 2 vs. Catholic
In Friday's second contest against Catholic (15-14), the Cardinals edged out the Giants in an exciting opening set, 26-24, before taking a 25-21 decision in the second game for a 2-0 advantage. Catholic put the match away with a convincing, 25-10 triumph in the third frame.
Isabelle Cooper led Catholic with eight kills while a trio of Cardinals added seven kills in the win. Maria Gonzalez had a match-best 22 assists while Jordan Villaruel picked up a team-high 12 digs.
Catholic hit .130 as a team in the win over the Giants.
Ortiz paced Keystone with eight kills while Hardy added six kills for the Giants, who hit -.031 in the loss to the Cardinals.
Homfeld totaled a match-high 16 digs to go along with three aces while Bowen led Keystone with 21 assists.
Monahan totaled four blocks while Hardy and Beatty added a trio of blocks each for the Giants, who received a pair of aces from
Nicki Yeager (Medford, N.J./Shawnee).
