Giants End Regular Season With Split at Ramapo Tri-Match

Keystone will host Immaculata on Tuesday night in the first round of the CSAC playoffs

Mahwah, N.J. – Keystone College's volleyball team closed out its regular season on Saturday with a split in a non-conference tri-match hosted by Ramapo College. The Giants (13-16) dropped a three-set decision to the host Roadrunners in Saturday's opening match before defeating the College of Mount Saint Vincent in four sets to earn a split on the day.
 
Match 1 vs. Ramapo
 
In Saturday's opening match against Ramapo (18-6), the Roadrunners took the early advantage with a 25-19 win in the opening set before taking a 2-0 lead with a narrow 25-23 decision in game two.  Ramapo completed the sweep with a 25-13 triumph in the third frame.
 
Larysa Iwaskiw totaled a match-high 17 kills for the Roadrunners, who received 20 assists from Kate Shirkey and 30 digs from Sarah Mulligan while hitting .129 as a team in the win.
 
Amanda Hardy (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) led Keystone with six kills while Kristen Larkin (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) and Nicole Frascati (Yonkers, N.Y./Yonkers) put down five kills apiece.  Larkin also served up a match-high three aces in the loss.
 
Malley Bowen (Owego, N.Y./Tioga Central) dished out 19 assists and had 15 digs for the Giants, who saw Victoria Homfeld (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) lead the squad with 24 digs.  Larkin added 14 digs while Erika Schwoyer (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) totaled 13 digs in the contest.
 
Keystone hit -.014 as a team in the setback to Ramapo.
 
 
Match 2 vs. Mount Saint Vincent
 
In Saturday's regular season finale against Mount Saint Vincent (16-11), Keystone took a 2-0 lead by winning the first set 25-13 before claiming a 25-20 victory in the second game.  Mount Saint Vincent won the third set 25-23 to make it a 2-1 contest before closed out the four set victory with a 25-21 triumph in game four to avenge a three-set defeated suffered to the Dolphins   on September 23 at the University of Scranton.
 
Larkin and Nathalie Ortiz (New Milford, N.J./New Milford) had 10 kills apiece for the Giants in the win while Hardy added seven kills. 
 
Bowen handed out a match-high 35 helpers while Homfeld led all players with 31 digs and four aces.  Nicki Yeager (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) added 10 digs for Keystone.
 
Hardy and Taylor Beatty (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) contributed four blocks apiece for the Giants, who hit .172 as a team in the victory.
 
Tara Maloney paced Mount Saint Vincent with 17 kills, Nicole Henderson had 31 assists, and Maria Leineweber totaled 15 digs for the Dolphins, who posted a .088 team hitting percentage in the loss.

Keystone will open the Colonial States Athletic Conference playoffs with a home match against fifth-seeded Immaculata University on Tuesday night starting at 7:00 p.m. in the Gambal Athletic Center.
 
The Giants, who are the #4 seed, are making their third straight trip to the conference's postseason tournament and are searching for the program's first CSAC title after finishing at the runner-up last fall.
