Keystone Edges Drew on the Road, 3-2

DeAngelis pitches four perfect innings in relief in win over Rangers

Madison, N.J. – Joe DeAngelis (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) pitched four perfect innings in relief and combined with starter Billy Nelson (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) for 12 strikeouts at Keystone College edged host Drew University 3-2 in non-conference baseball action on Wednesday afternoon.  Both squads now sport 15-8 overall records this spring.

Keystone took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning on Wednesday afternoon.  Sebastian De La Cruz (Port Jervis, N.Y./Port Jervis) singled through the right side to bring home Brady Barr (Bowie, Md./Bowie) with the game's first run before De La Cruz scored on a single to left center from Chris Panzarella (Hazle Township, Pa./Hazleton Area).

Drew leveled the contest at 2-2 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning by getting an RBI groundout followed by and RBI single.

The Giants went back in front in the visitor's seventh when Barr doubled to the gap in right center to bring home Anthony Ferrezza (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) to give Keystone a 3-2 edge.

That was more than enough for DeAngelis, who retired all 12 batters he faced in the final four innings to pick up the win.  The junior struck out five batters while getting four flyouts and three groundouts to prevent any Rangers from reaching base.

Nelson started on the mound for Keystone and struck out seven batters while yielding two runs on seven hits in five innings of work while taking a no-decision.

Ferrezza went 4-5 at the plate while Barr, De La Cruz, and Panzarella had two hits apiece for the Giants, who outhit Drew by an 11-7 margin for the game while neither team committed an error on the day.

Drew starter Jeff Serin left with a no-decision after allowing two runs on eight hits while striking out six batters in 5.1 innings on the hill.  Jendy Castillo was charged with the loss after yielding one run on three hits in 3.2 innings.

Jonathan Rodrigues and Dan Pfefferkorn had two hits apiece in the loss for the Rangers.

Keystone will host Marywood University on Thursday in a Colonial States Athletic Conference doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. at Christy Mathewson Field.
