Flemington, N.J. – Keystone College's baseball team completed a regular season sweep of Colonial States Athletic Conference foe Centenary University on Monday night with a 13-4 victory at Diamond Nation. The Giants, who have now won five games in a row, improve to 12-6 overall and 5-1 in conference play.
Keystone won the first two games of the regular season series on Saturday at home, topping the Cyclones (1-14, 0-6 CSAC) 5-0 and 4-1 in a doubleheader before rounding out the series with the big win in Monday night's nine-inning affair.
Keystone took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning as
Brendan Long (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) connected on a two-run single after a strange play in which
Bray Curreri (Eldred, N.Y./Eldred Central) homered over the right field fence, but was called out after passing
Anthony Ferrezza (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip), who was holding to see if the ball was caught with no home run signaled by the umpires. Ferrezza was allowed to score the run while Curreri officially had to settle for a single.
The Giants added a run in the second inning on an RBI single from
Brady Barr (Bowie, Md./Bowie) before adding three more runs in the visitor's third to open up a 7-0 advantage.
Ty Christian (Williamstown, N.Y./Altmar-Parish-Williamstown) hit and RBI single and later came around to score on a balk after Long also scored on a balk.
Centenary got three runs back in the bottom of the third inning and made it a 7-4 ballgame in the home fourth before Keystone restored its five-run lead with runs in the fifth and sixth innings as
Ryan Callahan (Highland Mills, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) and Long hit RBI singles.
The Giants closed out the scoring with four runs in the ninth inning as
Chris Panzarella (Hazle Township, Pa./Hazleton Area) hit an RBI single before Ferrezza hit a three-run, inside the park home run.
Ferrezza and Long each had three hits, three RBI, and two runs scored in the win for the Giants, who outhit the Cyclones 15-9 in the game. Barr, Panzarella, and Callahan added two hits apiece in the victory.
Yeison Andujar (San Juan, P.R./Programa Educativo Alcance) picked up the win after allowing three earned runs on seven hits while striking out six batters in five innings of work.
Tyler Widitz (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg)Dan Maguire (Ocean Township, N.J./Ocean Township),
Joe DeAngelis (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn), and
Troy Terzi (Wallingford, Conn./Notre Dame ) pitched a scoreless inning each in relief to close out the game on the mound for Keystone.
Casey Brown took the loss for the Cyclones after allowing seven runs on nine hits in two innings while Kevin Sensale led Centenary with three hits in the loss.
Keystone will next host Moravian College on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference matchup starting at 3:30 p.m. at Christy Mathewson Field in La Plume.
