Men’s Soccer Blanks Wildcats for First Win

Netherlin and Thiam net goals, Heintz makes seven saves to earn shutout

La Plume, Pa. – Talhah Netherlin (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) and Khadim Thiam (New York, N.Y./Washington Irving) scored first half goals and Steven Heintz, Jr. (Ardsley, Pa./Abington) made seven saves to lead Keystone College to a 2-0 victory in non-conference men's soccer action at the Pennsylvania College of Technology on Wednesday night.

Netherlin opened the scoring in the 30th minute of Wednesday's contest for Keystone (1-2) by scoring his second goal of the season on a penalty kick. The freshman has now scored in the Giants' last two games with both tallies coming from the spot.

Keystone netted the all-important second goal of the game just 48 seconds before halftime when Thiam knocked home the first goal of his collegiate career off a cross from Rolando Rodriguez (Linden, N.J./Linden).  Rodriguez's assist was his second helper of the season.

The Giants doubled up Penn Tech (0-3) in shots in the first half, 10-5, but the Wildcats looked to erase the two goal deficit in the second stanza, limiting the visitors to just two shots.

Keystone's defense buckled down as well though, yielding just five shots and two attempts on goal, both of which were saved be Heintz, who recorded the third clean sheet of his career.

The Giants held a 12-10 advantage in shots for the game including an 8-7 edge in shots on goal.  The visitors also generated six corner kick chances to none for Penn Tech.

Keystone will play its home opener on Saturday afternoon against Wells College.  Opening kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. on the turf field in La Plume.
