Giants looking to sweep CSAC series with Clarks Summit Wednesday at Gambal

Keystone opens two-game home stand that continues Saturday against Gwynedd-Mercy

The Keystone College women's basketball team has an opportunity to sweep the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) series with Clarks Summit University this Wednesday, January 31, when the teams meet at the Gambal Athletic Center in La Plume.  Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.

In the first meeting, on November 29, in Clarks Summit, the Giants jumped out to a 29-17 halftime lead en route to a 70-51 victory.  Sophomore center Maddy Moro (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) recorded a 'double-double' with 10 points and 10 rebounds and freshman guard Faith Shiffer (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove) finished with 10 points for Keystone, which shot nearly 57 percent from the field in the second half to break it open.  The Giants also shot 61 percent (8 of 13) from beyond the 3-point arc.   Senior guard Natalie Tuffy led the Defenders with 15 points and seven rebounds and junior guard Torri Erdman contributed 13 points, six rebounds, five assists, two blocks and two steals.

Clarks Summit notes:  It's been a rocky year for the Defenders, losing 15 straight games before defeating Cedar Crest, 65-57, at home on January 20…three of their losses, however, have been by seven-or-fewer points:  to Bryn Athyn at home on Nov. 30, 50-45 in overtime, at Cedar Crest, 61-54, on Dec. 2, and to Penn State-Abington, 69-65, on Jan. 2 at home…junior guard Torri Erdman, freshman point-guard Randie Traxler, and freshman center Hannah Scarborough have started all 19 games, with Traxler averaging 40 minutes per game; senior point-guard Natalie Tuffy has played one less game than Erdman, Traxler and Scarborough, but she has started every game she's played…Erdman is the Defenders' top  scorer, averaging nearly 19 points per game to go along with 7.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists.

Keystone notes (team):  After playing four of their last five games on the road, the Giants return home to open a two-game home stand Wednesday.  It concludes Saturday, February 3, as Keystone hosts Gwynedd-Mercy beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the Gambal Athletic Center…Giants' 75-point effort in Saturday's loss at Valley Forge was its second highest output of the season; Keystone scored a season-high 78 points against Medgar Evers in the consolation game of the Max Ziel tournament in Oswego, New York, on November 18…Keystone is four games behind Centenary for third-place in the South division of the CSAC standings.

Keystone notes (individual):  Senior guard Nina Hodanich (Scranton, Pa./West Scranton) came up with a season-high six steals and scored a team-high 15 points in the Giants' 88-52 loss to Manhattanville in Purchase, New York, Monday evening; she has scored in double-figures in two straight and four of her last five games to raise her scoring average from 7.0 on January 15 to her current average of 9.8 points per game…in her last five games, freshman forward Samy Farah (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) is averaging 10.4 points and 5.8 rebounds per game; on Monday, she finished with eight points and eight rebounds against Manhattanville…four Giants have played in all 19 games this year:  freshmen guards Faith Shiffer (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove) and Autum Kitajima (Williamsport, Pa./Wellsboro Area), junior forward Mayah Kitchen (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter), and Farah;  Shiffer, Farah and sophomore center Maddy Moro (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) lead the team in games started (16)…Moro is now 21 rebounds shy of 200 on the season; twice this year, she has pulled down 20 rebounds in a game:  23 against Cairn University on Jan. 20 and 20 against Gwynedd-Mercy on Jan. 22.
