Men’s Soccer Falls 3-1 at No. 19 Case Western in NCAA First Round

Press Conference (Schneck/Johnson/Tounkara)

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Nov. 10, 2018 -
Junior Ibrahim Tounkara (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) scored in the ninth minute of action for the Keystone College men's soccer team but host No. 19 Case Western Reserve scored three unanswered goals in the second half to hand the Giants a 3-1 defeat in the NCAA Division III First Round on Saturday.

The Giants end the year at 12-5-1 after winning the program's first-ever CSAC title this season. The Spartans improve to 15-3-1 and will face the winner of Capital and Westminster tomorrow.

Tounkara scored his third goal of the year, ripping a shot top left corner, to hand the Giants an early 1-0 edge in just the ninth minute of play. This score stood until halftime, thanks to a penalty kick save by freshman keeper Erick Gomez (Marrero, La./John Ehret) in the 22nd minute.

Following intermission, the Spartans scored in the 46th, 79th and 89th minute to hand Keystone the season-ending loss.

Case Western outshot Keystone 29-4 (10-2 on frame) and held the edge in corners, 8-3.

Gomez made seven stops on the day for the Giants and Tounkara led the attack with two shots on frame.
