Field Hockey Falls at No. 7 TCNJ 3-0 In NCAA First Round

EWING, N.J. - Nov. 7, 2018 - Senior Emily Hawkins (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham) tied a single-game program record with 26 saves on Wednesday night for the Keystone College field hockey team but the Giants fell at No. 7 The College of New Jersey 3-0 in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Tournament.

The Giants conclude the season at 14-5 overall after going 8-0 in CSAC play during the regular season and capturing the program's first-ever conference title and NCAA bid. The Lions improve to 15-4 and advance to the second round to play No. 5 Vassar on Nov. 10 at 2 pm.

Hawkins faced 41 shots against the Lions and allowed only three go by, finishing with 26 stops, tying Amy Denmon (9/7/15 vs. Albright) and Dian Esposito (1984 vs. SUNY Cobleskill).

Hawkins' previous career high was 20 saves against Gwynedd Mercy on Oct. 22, 2016. The senior made 16 saves in the first half and 10 more stops in the second session. In addition, junior Daphne Leenas (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) came up big with three defensive saves to help out the Keystone cause.

Junior Savanna Robinson (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) tallied the Giants' lone shot on goal. Senior Allison Berman (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./E.L. Meyers) attempted Keystone's only penalty corner in the ninth minute of play.

Keystone had four seniors play in their final collegiate game: Hawkins, Berman, Kayla Bain (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) and Alex Smith (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin). The Keystone College Athletic Department thanks you for your commitment and dedication to the program and getting the Giants into the NCAA Tournament for the first time ever.
