Giants pull out 3-2 win over Heidelberg Saturday behind strong pitching effort from McFadden

Adam Kelly belts two-run home run to spark the offense

Port Charlotte, Fla.—Junior pitcher Dakota McFadden (Rocky Point, NC/Heide Trask) took matters into his own hands today for the Keystone College baseball team

He picked up a complete game victory by striking out 11 and scattering eight hits as the Giants pulled out a 3-2 victory over Heidelberg University.   In addition, McFadden advanced junior Mohammed Hussein (Queens, NY/William C. Bryant) to third base with a fly ball to right center field with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning.  Hussein then scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch on an intentional walk to junior Ronald Medina (Bronx, NY/Dewitt Clinton)

McFadden and Hussein were far from the only heroes for Keystone today.

With the offense struggling—the Giants managed only three hits today, four yesterday against Otterbein, and two last Wednesday against Salisbury—sophomore Adam Kelly (Beach Lake, Pa./Honesdale) belted a two-run home run in the fifth inning and junior Chris Panzarella (Hazle Township, Pa./Hazleton Area) delivered a crucial sacrifice bunt after Hussein walked to open the ninth inning.  Panzarella and junior Johann Paniagua (Bronx, NY/James Monroe Campus High School) recorded the other two hits for Keystone, now 2-4.

McFadden, however, was one out away in the top of the ninth from securing the win, but Heidelberg senior Phil Frazier tied it up with a single that drove in Matt Psychas, who singled to open the frame.  Psychas and seniors Joey Rydzewski and Kyle Slovick finished with two hits apiece for the Student Princes, who fell to 6-3 on the season.

Keystone returns to action tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m. against Marietta College.
