WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP, Pa.—Sophomore
Shannon Lloyd (King of Prussia, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) helped Keystone College snap a four-game losing skid Wednesday afternoon.
Lloyd finished with two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs as the Giants downed King's College, 5-4, in the opening game of a non-conference doubleheader at the Betzler Complex. The Monarchs avenged the loss in the second game, jumping out to a 4-0 lead en route to a 5-1 win.
Keystone is now 8-22 overall while King's is 16-14.
Game 1 – Senior
Kaylee Hartman (Red Bank, N.J./Red Bank Regional), freshman
Paige Mokychic (Beaumont, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) and Lloyd finished with two hits apiece as the Giants took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, added three more in the third, and then rode the strength of a solid relief effort by sophomore
Ashley Constable (Bangor, Pa./Bangor Area) to hold on for the victory. Constable relieved starter
Abby Aniska (Scott Township, Pa./Lakeland) in the third inning and held the Monarchs scoreless on two hits the rest of the way to earn her third win of the season.
Lloyd hit a run-scoring single in the first and drove in another run in the third with her fifth double of the season. The Giants also picked up two more runs in the third on a sacrifice fly by senior
Ryleigh Fitch (Springville, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) and a single by sophomore
Gabrielle Truesdale (Tunkhannock, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) that scored Lloyd with what turned out to be the winning run.
Senior Megan Beaupre led the Monarchs with three hits, including a double, and two RBIs and junior Lexi Wolk and Mindina Lieback each finished with a hit and an RBI.
Game 2 – King's opened up a 4-0 lead after three innings and held the Giants to just four hits to salvage a split. Freshman pitcher Nicole Kirse struck out three, walked only one batter, and did not allow an earned run to pick up the complete game victory and improve to 5-4. Keystone avoided the shutout in the sixth inning when Fitch, who finished with two hits, drove in a run with a single up the middle that scored Mokychic, who reached on an error. The Giants' other two hits were recorded by Hartman and junior
Alyssa Hughes (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge).
Junior Amber Saylor, sophomore Mackenzie Yori, and Wolk paced the Monarchs' 10-hit attack with two hits apiece and Beaupre drove in a pair of runs.
The Giants will host Neumann University in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) doubleheader this Friday, April 20, beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Edmunds Field in La Plume.
