Giants use long ball to defeat Pacers, 13-4, in CSAC action Tuesday

Keystone winning streak now at eight games

SCRANTON, Pa.—Senior Eric Drzewiecki (Hellertown, Pa./Phillipsburg), junior Dakota McFadden (Rocky Point, NC/Heide Trask), and sophomore Adam Kelly (Beach Lake, Pa./Honesdale) each belted a home run and Keystone College finished with 19 hits altogether on its way to a 13-4 victory over Marywood University in the first of a two-game Colonial States Athletic Conference series Tuesday afternoon at Pacer Field.

The win was the eighth straight for the Giants, now 23-7 overall and a league-leading 11-0 in the CSAC, while the Pacers fell to 14-13 overall and 4-5 in conference play.

With the CSAC tournament right around the corner, veteran Giant head coach Jamie Shevchik also learned that he's got a third starter to go to in addition to senior Troy Terzi (Wallingford, Conn./Notre Dame) and McFadden in case he needs a fresh arm in the double-elimination format.

Freshman Nathan Hinkley (Bradenton, Fla./Saint Lucie West Centennial) turned in an impressive performance, holding the Pacers to five hits and two earned runs in six innings to improve his record to 4-0.  He also struck out seven batters while walking only one.

The Giants scored three runs in both the second and third innings, then broke it open with a five-run rally in the fourth that included a two-run home run by McFadden, a two-run single by junior Jandi Pena (New York, NY/James Monroe Campus High School), and a run-scoring triple by senior Bray Curreri (Eldred, N.Y./Eldred Central).

Kelly hit a two-run home run in the second and Drzewiecki blasted a two-run double in the first inning and a solo home run in the second.  McFadden and Drzewiecki led Keystone with three hits apiece and Curreri, Kelly, Pena, junior Chris Panzarella (Hazle Township, Pa./Hazleton Area) and sophomore Ryan Callahan (Highland Mills, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) finished with two each.

Jake Schuster led the Pacers with three hits, including a pair of doubles, and drove in two runs.

The Giants will host the Pacers on Thursday, April 26, beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Christy Mathewson Field in La Plume.
