RADNOR, Pa.—The Keystone College baseball team survived a pair of nail-biters today in its Colonial States Athletic Conference opener against Cabrini University.
 
In the opener, senior pitcher Troy Terzi (Wallingford, Conn./Notre Dame) limited the Cavaliers to four hits and the Giants overcame a 1-0 deficit with a run in each of the final two innings to pull out a 2-1 victory.  In the second game, Cabrini erased an early 3-0 deficit before the Giants scored a run in the top of the eighth inning to squeeze out a 4-3 win. 
 
Today's sweep improves Keystone to 14-6 overall and 2-0 in the CSAC, while the Cavaliers fell to 11-11 overall and 0-2 in league play.
 
Game 1 – Terzi struck out four, lowered his earned run average to 1.76, and improved to 4-1 with his second complete game of the season.  His counterpart, freshman Corey Hunt, was also impressive, going six innings and allowing only five hits. 
 
Keystone tied it up in the sixth on an RBI double by sophomore Adam Kelly (Beach Lake, Pa./Honesdale) and pushed across the game-winning run in the seventh when junior Chris Panzarella (Hazle Township, Pa./Hazleton Area) walked, advanced to second on a ground out, and scored on a single by pinch-hitter Johann Paniagua (Bronx, NY/James Monroe Campus High School) off of reliever Matt Dobeck.  The Giants' other four hits were by junior Mohammed Hussein (Queens, NY/William C. Bryant), senior Bray Curreri (Eldred, N.Y./Eldred Central), junior Dakota McFadden (Rocky Point, NC/Heide Trask), and sophomore Ryan Callahan (Highland Mills, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury).
 
Cabrini took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when junior Tyler Norris hit a one-out single, stole second base, and came around to score on a single through the right side of the Keystone defense by freshman JD Barrett.
 
Game 2 – The Giants belted out 13 hits, including four by junior Ronald Medina (Bronx, NY/Dewitt Clinton) and three by starting pitcher Dakota McFadden (Rocky Point, NC/Heide Trask), but Keystone found itself tied 3-3 heading into the eighth inning.  Medina started the game-winning rally with a double, advanced to third on a bunt single by Curreri, and scored on a two-out single by sophomore Alejandro Monteverde (Catasauqua, Pa./Catasauqua).
 
McFadden pitched 6.1 innings and allowed only two earned runs before giving way to freshman Nathan Hinkley (Bradenton, Fla./Saint Lucie West Centennial), who got the final two outs of the seventh inning after allowing a hit to pick up the victory.  Senior Tyler Widitz (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) held the Cavaliers to one hit over the final two innings to earn his team-leading sixth save of the season.  McFadden helped his own cause with a two-run double in the second inning and Medina drove in a run with an infield single in the first inning.
 
Hussein finished with two hits, including a triple, to extend his hitting streak to 12 games.
 
Keystone will return to CSAC action on Tuesday, April 10, against Centenary University at Christy Mathewson Field in La Plume beginning at 3:00 p.m.
