Cortes Scores in Giants’ 5-1 Defeat to Neumann

La PLUME, Pa. - Sept. 18, 2018 - Senior Nisa Cortes (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady) scored the Giants' first goal of the season but the Keystone College women's soccer team fell to Neumann 5-1 on Tuesday afternoon.

Cortes tallied her 22nd career marker in the ninth minute of play, off a feed from senior Kristy Hansen (Brodheadsville, Pa./Pleasant Valley), to give Keystone (0-5-0) the early 1-0 lead against the Knights (3-4-0).

Neumann tallied the equalizer just 12 seconds later and would tack on two more goals to claim a 3-1 lead at halftime. The Knights found the back of the net in the 71st and 88th minute to wrap up the scoring.

Overall, Keystone fired off 13 shots, with Cortes leading the attack with four shots. Sophomore Faith Shiffer (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove), junior Jordyn Olsen (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) and junior Kristen Hlavaty (Scott Twp., Pa./Lakeland) all had two shots each.

Junior Rebekah Shepherd (South Canaan, Pa./Western Wayne) made 15 saves in the net for her third straight match with at least 12 saves.

The Giants head to Lancaster Bible on Thursday, Sept. 20 before the CSAC opener at Rosemont on Sept. 22.
