Football Drops 47-7 Decision at Misericordia


DALLAS, Pa. - The Keystone College football team fell 47-7 at Misericordia University in a varsity contest on a wet Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.
  • Johnathan Bates (Jersey City, N.J./Hudson Catholic) accounted for 78 yards through the air, including a 23-yard touchdown strike to Javier Tazza (Burlington City, N.J./Burlington City) at 8:20 in the 2nd quarter.
  • Kevin Lewis (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep) rushed 11 times for 37 yards while Jeremiah Allen (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Forks) rushed five times for 20 yards, including a long run of 14 yards.
  • On the receiving end, Zechariah Wassell (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua Area) hauled in two catches for 26 yards while Maalik Thomas (Rochester, N.Y./Northstar), Matthew Bruno (Lodi, N.J./Lodi), Damir Green (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep) and Lewis all notched one reception.
  • Defensively, Brandon Lawyer (Dover, Pa./Dover Area) was credited with 10 total tackles while Sean Tocci (Lodi, N.J./Lodi) made eight.
  • Jalen Davis (Burlington, N.J./Burlington City), Brandon Smith (Baltimore, Md./Mergenthaler) and Jamir Spencer-Smith (Burlington, N.J./Burlington City) all finished with 7 tackles.
  • Carter Morse (Panama, N.Y./Panama Central) made five tackles including one for loss.
  • On special teams, Marcus Sessoms (Baltimore, Md./Lansdowne), Tymere Sampson (Philadelphia, Pa./Jules E. Mastbaum AVT) and Green combined for 7 kick returns for 85 yards.
  • Ethan Dunn (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) had 7 punts for 225 yards (32.1 average). Dunn also converted a 4th-and-7 fake punt pass for 22 yards to Thomas in the 2nd quarter.
  • For the Cougars, Misericordia ran for 395 yards and passed for 154.
  • The Giants trailed just 6-0 after the 1st quarter but the Cougars rattled off 24 points in the 2nd to take a 30-7 lead at halftime.
  • Keystone will now prepare to head to Morrisville State in a JV contest on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 1 p.m.
