Baseball Drops Season Opener at Washington & Lee 9-3

LEXINGTON, Va. - The Keystone College baseball team dropped a 9-3 decision at Washington & Lee University in the 2020 season opener on Friday evening.
  • Keystone opens the year at 0-1 while Washington & Lee remains undefeated at 4-0.
  • Both teams will square off tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. to conclude the 2-game set.
  • The Generals led 2-0 through 6 innings before the Giants got on the board, as senior Nick Carlini (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) scored on a fielding error.
  • Trailing 2-1, Keystone surrendered 7 runs on 4 hits & 2 errors in the bottom of 8th.
  • Down 9-1, the Giants started to mount a rally in the top of the 9th as senior Manuel Rojas (Bronx, N.Y./Eagle Academy) drew a bases-loaded walk & freshman Seth Brizel (Tamarac, Fla./J.P. Taravella) earned an RBI groundout to 1st.
  • The Giants collected 4 hits overall as Carlini enjoyed a double, with junior Adam Kelly (Beach Lake, Pa./Honesdale), sophomore Chris Hadsall (Lehman, Pa./Lake Lehman) & junior Chris Ammirati (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) contributing singles.
  • On the hill, junior Sean Roberts (Wharton, N.J./Pope John XXIII Regional) earned the start & suffered the loss, tossing 7 frames, allowing 4 hits, 2 runs & 2 walks while striking out 6 - throwing 95 pitches.
  • Junior Sean Perry (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Township) & sophomore Jordan Montes (Tampa, Fla./Sickles) appeared in relief.
  • For the Generals, Jackson Thigpen tossed 8 innings with 6 strikeouts while Jackson Gazin went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI & 2 runs.
