Giants End Season with 72-47 Loss at #19 Messiah in NCAA 1st Round

GRANTHAM, Pa. -
The Keystone College women's basketball team ended the 2019-20 season with a 72-47 defeat at No. 19 Messiah College on Friday night in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.
  • With the loss, Keystone ends the year at 21-7 as the 21 wins are tied for the 2nd most in single-season program history with the 2004-05 squad.
  • Messiah improves to  24-4 and will face Eastern Connecticut State at 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 7.
  • The Falcons are 14-0 at home this year & are on a 15-game winning streak.
  • Messiah jumped out to a 23-13 lead after the 1st quarter but the Giants responded nicely with a 22-16 spurt in the 2nd quarter to trail at the break, 39-35.
  • However, the 2nd half was all Messiah as the Falcons outscored the Giants 26-3 in the 3rd quarter.
  • Sophomore Bella Lamonea (Glendora, Calif./South Hills) led Keystone with 19 points & 7 rebounds.
  • Freshman Katie Price (Fredonia, N.Y./Fredonia) enjoyed 7 points while junior Khaliah Gordon (Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Wood) notched 5 points & 4 steals.
  • Sophomore Mac Oribello (San Diego, Calif./Westview) tallied 4 points & 3 rebounds while freshman Renata Alberici (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) pulled down 5 boards.
  • Juniors Faith Shiffer (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove) & Samy Farah (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) combined for 11 points & 5 rebounds off the bench.
  • For Messiah, Jayneisha Davis led all scorers with 26 points.
  • Messiah had 4 players finish in double figures.
