Football Week 5 Preview: Anna Maria

LA PLUME, Pa. – The Keystone College football team (0-4) will begin Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) play as it hosts Anna Maria College (2-1) this Saturday, Oct. 2 at noon.

OFFENSE

Kevin Lewis (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) leads the Giants and is tied for the ECFC lead with four rushing touchdowns this year. Lewis has rushed for 139 net yards this year.

Tom Roach (Burlington City, N.J./Burlington City) has tossed 417 yards through the air with two TD's – both coming last week at Hobart. Jorden Cook (New Paltz, N.Y./New Paltz) leads KC with 10 receptions and 159 yards. Cook and Angel Rodriguez (Islip, N.Y./Islip) hauled in TD receptions last week.

DEFENSE

Sean Tocci (Lodi, N.J./Lodi) ranks fourth in the ECFC with 27 total tackles while Maxwell Johnson (Wilmington, Del./St. Thomas Aquinas College) and Sean Pettway (Ellenville, N.Y./Ellenville) are tied for 10th with 24 each. Johnson and Jerell Springer (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) lead the Giants with one sack apiece while Springer, Frankie Vega (Edison, N.J./Edison) and Dontez Crawford (Baltimore, Md./Pennsauken) all have interceptions.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Darrien Tabb (Pennsauken, N.J./), Christopher Diaz (Lodi, N.J./Lodi) and Cook have combined for 22 kickoff returns, totaling 363 yards. Zac Cost (Dalton, Pa./) has 17 punts this year, with a long of 43.

ANNA MARIA

The Amcats are off to their best start in school history with a 2-1 record, notching wins over Massachusetts Maritime Academy (23-13) and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (29-24). Anna Maria fell in its season-opener to Nichols College by a score of 27-23.

In their two wins, the Amcats put up more than 300 yards of offense through the air. Senior quarterback Alex Cohen has thrown four total touchdowns but has also five intercepted passes.

Six-foot-five sophomore receiver Deandre Wallace leads the aerial attack with 10 receptions, 300 yards and three touchdowns. On the season, Anna Maria has averaged 65.7 yards on the ground per game with its only two rushing scores coming courtesy of Cohen.

Defensive lineman Jude Sampson has been the leading force in the defensive trenches, racking up 18.0 total tackles with a team-leading three sacks and five tackles for loss.

The Amcats last finished with a 2-3 conference record in 2019.

WHAT'S NEXT

Following Saturday's contest, the Giants will head to Washington, D.C. to continue ECFC play as they take on Gallaudet University on Saturday, Oct. 2 at noon.
