Men's Basketball Surges But Falls Short to Wilson, 85-77

The Giants twice scraped away at double-digit deficits but ultimately fell short.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Giants surged twice to scrape away at double-digit deficits but ultimately fell to Wilson, 85-77, Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference play at the Frank E. Gannett Memorial Field House.

The Phoenix held steady double-digit leads in both halves, but Keystone was able to come within striking distance at the tail ends of each period. The Giants twice cut the deficit to just four points with under a minute remaining in the game, but Wilson sealed the game with made free throws for the win.

Keystone fell to 3-9 overall and 1-2 in CSAC play while Wilson improved to 7-4 overall, 3-0 in conference.

It was the men's team's first action since Dec. 11, 2021.

Standout Performers
  • Tone Cockrell (Upper Marlboro, Md./Landon School) totaled 29 points, going 12 for 12 at the free-throw line with seven rebounds. Wilson built up to a 13-point lead in the first half before Cockrell closed with a 15-point run to bring the Giants within eight points at the break.
  • Tyrell Lacoste (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) nearly tabbed a double-double with 22 points and eight rebounds. Lacoste dropped eight points in the final minutes of the game to cut a 12-point deficit to just four points.
  • Warrick Godwin Jr. led the Phoenix with 30 points on 10-of-19 shooting with six 3-pointers and seven rebounds.
  • Antonio Bussey tallied a double-double for Wilson with 11 points and 13 boards along with three blocks.
