Football Falls to Castleton 35-20

The Giants notched 20 second-half points.

La PLUME, Pa.  – Three different players tallied a rushing touchdown for the Keystone College football team in Saturday's ECFC contest against Castleton University, but the Giants fell to the visiting Spartans 35-20.

The Giants (1-7, 1-3 ECFC) will be on their bye week followed by their final home contest of the season on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. vs. SUNY Maritime. The Spartans improve to 4-4 (3-1 ECFC) and will host Alfred State on Oct. 29.

Castleton jumped out to a 21-0 lead at halftime, including outscoring Keystone 14-0 in the second quarter. Keystone rallied with 20 second-half points, with two-yard touchdown runs by Mujaheed Muhammad (Philadelphia, Pa./Paul Robeson) and Tom Roach (Burlington City, N.J./Burlington City) to get within 21-13.

Damir Green (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep) notched a one-yard scoring run early in the fourth to get within eight, 28-20. But Castleton scored with 6:58 remaining in regulation to claim a 15-point lead that they never relinquished.

Muhammad had 13 carries for 84 yards, including a 53-yard carry. Green and Kevin Lewis (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) combined for 87 yards on the ground.

Roach finished 20-of-31 for 203 yards, finding 10 different receivers. Jorden Cook (New Paltz, N.Y./New Paltz) and Javier Tazza (Burlington City, N.J./Burlington City) each had four receptions, combining for 110 yards. Richie Crews (Cuddebackville, N.Y./Port Jervis), Chad Jones (Bear, Del./Alexis I. DuPont), and Da'Jaun Vales (Magnolia, N.J./Sterling) combined for eight catches.

Three Giants tallied double-digit tackles as Carlos Perez (Reading, Pa./Reading) led the way with 11 stops. Both Jeremyiah Johnson (Passaic, N.J./Passaic) and Jamir Spencer-Smith (Burlington, N.J./Burlington City) had 10 tackles. Sean Tocci (Lodi, N.J./Lodi) and Frankie Vega (Edison, N.J./Edison) combined for 15 tackles, one sack, and two tackles for loss. In the secondary, Joe Manfredo (Levittown, N.Y./General Douglas MacArthur) had two pass breakups.

The Spartans rushed for 182 yards and had three receivers haul in one TD each. Castleton finished 2-of-3 on fourth down on the day.
