Giants Drop Close Contest at Alfred State 42-33

Keystone trailed by 22 points in the third quarter before mounting a comeback.

ALFRED, N.Y. – Four different players scored a rushing touchdown for the Keystone College football team but the Giants fell at Alfred State College 42-33 in ECFC action on Saturday afternoon.

Mujaheed Muhammad (Philadelphia, Pa./Paul Robeson) rushed 21 times for 135 yards and one touchdown while Kevin Lewis (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) notched 69 yards on 16 carries and one score. Damir Green (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep) enjoyed a five-yard score in the second while Tom Roach (Burlington City, N.J./Burlington City) had a QB sneak TD in the fourth.

Keystone trailed by 22 (35-13) with 10:05 left to play in the third. However, the Giants stormed back with three-straight scores. Reese Karp (Pen Argyl, Pa./Pen Argyl) hauled in a six-hard TD reception from Roach to make it a 35-20 contest with 2:11 in the third.

At 11:13 in the fourth, Lewis capped off a nine-play drive with a one-yard TD run to inch Keystone closer, 35-27. With just 37 ticks in regulation, Roach dove through to finish a 12-play, 81-yard drive to bring the Giants within two. Unfortunately, the ensuing two-point try was unsuccessful.

With 20 ticks left, the Pioneers scored a 30-yard rush TD to put the game away.

Overall, Keystone rushed 56 times for 241 yards while Alfred State had 31 carries for 252 yards, as both teams combined for 493 rushing yards on Saturday. Muhammad had game-highs in carries (21) and yards (135).

Roach finished the day 16-for-29 with 220 yards and the TD to Karp. Richie Crews (Cuddebackville, N.Y./Port Jervis) hauled in five catches for 91 yards while Javier Tazza (Burlington City, N.J./Burlington City) notched three receptions for 44 yards. Jayson Nami (Freehold Township, N.J./Freehold Township) and Da'Jaun Vales (Magnolia, N.J./Sterling) combined for four catches and 53 yards.

Defensively, Jeremyiah Johnson (Passaic, N.J./Passaic) led Keystone with seven stops. Joe Manfredo (Levittown, N.Y./General Douglas MacArthur) registered his third INT of the season while Frankie Vega (Edison, N.J./Edison) enjoyed a fumble recovery.

With the defeat, Keystone falls to 0-6 (0-2 ECFC) and will remain on the road, traveling to Anna Maria College on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 12 p.m. The Pioneers improve to 4-2 (2-0 ECFC) and host Dean for Homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 22.
