AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Keystone College baseball team concluded its annual spring break trip to Florida on Wednesday, falling to Farmingdale State College 7-3 at Lake Myrtle Field #7.
With the defeat, the Giants are now 5-9 and will head back north to face Wilson College (9-2) on Saturday, March 19 in the CSAC opener for both squads. Keystone is slated to host St. Joseph's Brooklyn (2-6) in a doubleheader on Sunday, March 20 at 1 p.m. in the team's home opener. Farmingdale State improves to 5-6 and will play SUNY Maritime (4-3) on Saturday, March 26 in a Skyline doubleheader.
The Rams plated four in the top of the first and tacked on two more in the eighth. Keystone started a rally in the bottom of the ninth, breaking up the shutout by scoring three runs.
Keystone finished with nine hits on the day as Jason Thomas (Miami, Fla./Barbara Goleman) went 2-for-5 with a two-run single in the ninth. Julio Acosta (Elizabeth, N.J./Hudson Catholic) went 2-for-4 with one run scored. JD Barrett (Moosic, Pa./Dallas) and Adam Kelly (Beach Lake, Pa./Honesdale) smacked doubles while Wynston Dyer (Columbia, S.C./Spring Valley), Chris Hadsall (Lehman, Pa./Lake Lehman), and Bobby Pokorney (Margate, Fla./J.P. Taravella) all provided base knocks.
The Rams finished with 13 hits, paced by Jordan Lambert who went 3-for-5 with two RBI. Justin Dimartino and Nolan White combined to go 4-for-7.
Ross Zanghi (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) earned the starting nod for the Giants while Sam Beadle (Canton, Conn./Canton), Patrick Adamski (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West), Braden Green (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Fort Lauderdale), and Sean Roberts (Wharton, N.J./Pope John XXIII Regional) appeared in relief.
Phillip Gerard pitched 6.1 innings for the Rams, striking out nine for the win. Stephen Clancy earned a one-out save with runners on first and second.
