Baseball Takes Doubleheader from St. Elizabeth

LA PLUME, Pa.- The Keystone College baseball team took down St. Elizabeth in a CSAC doubleheader 6-5 and 3-2 to complete the series sweep. With the two wins, Keystone moves to 24-11 (14-1 CSAC). St. Elizabeth falls 13-22 (7-8 CSAC).

Game One: Keystone 6; St. Elizabeth 5

Griffin Yastremski (Bath, N.Y./Haverling) went 3-for-3 with two RBI while Jason Thomas (Miami, Fla./Barbara Goleman) went 2-for-3 highlighted by two-run home run. Brayan Villar (West Orange, N.J./Belleville) earned the start and his fifth win as he went five innings with five strikeouts. Tyler Mullen (Scott Township, Pa./Lakeland) pitched two innings of relief as he allowed three hits with one strikeout as the freshman right-hander picked up his third save of the season.

Keystone was up 5-0 heading into the fifth where St. Elizabeth put up a five spot in that inning to tie the game. The Giants were able to get a run back in the bottom of the fifth thanks to an RBI SAC fly from Chris Hadsall (Lehman, Pa./Lake Lehman) to give Keystone the lead and eventually the win.

Game Two: Keystone 3; St. Elizabeth 2

The Giants only had two hits in game two as Giovanni Diaz (Bronx, N.Y./Christopher Columbus) led Keystone with two RBI. He had a SAC fly in the first and an RBI single in the third. Nathan Hinkley (Bradenton, Fla./Saint Lucie West Centennial) picked up his sixth win on the year as he went six innings with two strikeouts. Dominic Verrastro (Scott Township, Pa./Lakeland) earned her first save of the season as he struck out two batters in his one inning of relief.

What's Next

Baseball will face SUNY Cobleskill on the road this Wednesday, May 3 at 3:30 p.m. in the team's final nonconference game of the 2023 campaign.  St. Elizabeth goes up against FDU-Florham tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 P.M.
