ST. MARY'S CITY, Md.- The No. 3 seed Keystone College field hockey team were defeated 5-1 to top seed St. Mary's College of Maryland Saturday afternoon in the 2024 United East Conference Championship.
Keystone concludes the season at 9-8. St. Mary's improves to 10-10 and have earned the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
Belen Rodriguez (Caballito, Buenos Aires, Argentina/Colegio Santa BrÃgida) tallied the first and only goal for Keystone just 49 seconds into the game. Goalkeeper Hannah Osbahr (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) made three saves in the loss. Angelina Morley (Deposit, N.Y./Deposit) tallied a defensive save, and with that defensive save she becomes Keystone's all-time career defensive saves leader.
Following the first goal from Keystone, St. Mary's responded with five unanswered goals. Charlotte Horn earned United East Tournament MVP honors as she scored a game high two goals. Sofia Lopez, Briana Allen, and Emma Watkins chipped in with one. Brenna Ziegler led the Seahawks with two assists. Sophia Kent also posted three saves in the cage.
The Seahawks edged the Giants on shots, 20-17 while the Giants provided an 8-7 margin on penalty corners.
