SCRANTON, Pa.- In their first game in a little over two weeks, the Keystone College softball dropped a nonconference doubleheader to nearby rival Marywood University 7-4 and 6-0 Wednesday afternoon at Pacers Field.
Game One: Keystone 4, Marywood 7
The Giants kicked off the game with a bang as Julia Gorel (Carbondale, Pa./Carbondale Area) launched a two-run home run, the first of her career. Marywood was able to tie it in the bottom half of that inning with an RBI single by Riley Knott and a fielding error by Keystone.
Kiara Taylor (Berlin, Md./Decatur) gave Keystone the lead in the top of the second with a two-RBI single. The game would remain tied until the bottom of the sixth where Marywood had some clutch hits and put a five-spot in that inning to go up, 7-4. The Giants tried to rally, but they were unable to capitalize.
Rachel Murray (Old Forge, Pa./Old Forge) posted two hits to lead the Keystone offense. Isabella Benitez (East Windsor, N.J./Hightstown) got the start and threw a complete game. She forced 11 groundouts and six flyouts.
Game Two: Keystone 0, Marywood 6
Keystone's offense went cold in the second game as they only recorded one hit. Gorel started game two and tossed a complete game as well with a strikeout. She gave up five earned runs off eight hits.
