DALLAS, Pa.- The Keystone College baseball team took down No. 18/21 and defending national champs Misericordia University 8-3 Tuesday afternoon at Tambur Field.
Carlos Pascual (Paterson, N.J./International) was the lone Giant with a multi-hit game as he went 3-for-5 which included a two-RBI single. Darren Hagan (Aston, Pa./Garnet Valley), Nate Ewing (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area), and Dante Ruby (Eynon, Pa./Valley View) added a run in the win.
Sean Brennan (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) got his fifth win of the season as he tossed seven innings and allowed three hits, two earned runs, and eight strikeouts. Anthony Mierez (Granby, Conn./Rockville) pitched the last two frames and recorded five strikeouts while only allowing one hit.
Both the Giants and Cougars posted back-to-back 1-2-3 innings to open the game. That would eventually end in the top of the third when Keystone tacked five runs in that inning. Misericordia would later answer with one run in the fourth off an RBI hit by pitch.
Misericordia would cut into their deficit a little bit more as Joe Peters ripped a double to right-center in the sixth, which Owen Daminger scored.
In the top of the ninth, Keystone took advantage of some Misericordia errors and put up three runs to pull ahead, 8-2. Brooks Kanwisher added an RBI SAC fly in the bottom of the ninth, but that would be be all the scoring the Cougars would be able to do.
Keystone (13-5) resumes United East Conference play tomorrow afternoon as they travel to Williamsport to face Penn College at 2 p.m.
