Softball Defeated in Opening Game with Penn State Harrisburg

MIDDLETOWN, Pa.- The Keystone College softball team dropped the opening game of a doubleheader with Penn State Harrisburg 9-3 Wednesday afternoon. Keystone falls to 3-10 and 2-1 in conference play.

Mara Brooks (Manassas, Va./Brentsville) and Isabella Mandarano (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore) both had two hits with a run batted in. Kiara Taylor (Berlin, Md./Decatur) collected an RBI single in the game one loss.

Emily Schultz (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) was the starting pitcher and tossed a complete game where she struck out four batters. She allowed 11 hits, nine earned runs, and six walks.

Both teams were tied at one a piece until the bottom of the third when the Nittany Lions put up four runs, highlighted by a two-run home run Madelyn Lehigh. Keystone added two in fourth with RBI base knocks by Mandarano and Taylor to make it a 5-3 ball game.

Harrisburg would pull away in the end they combined four runs in the fifth and sixth inning to capture game one.

Game two of the United East doubleheader was postponed due to inclement weather and will now be played on Thursday, Apr. 10 at 3 p.m. The team's next game will be on Monday, Apr. 7 as they face Penn State Scranton at 3 p.m.
