ASTON, Pa.- The Keystone College softball team concluded the 2025 season with a doubleheader split with Penn State Brandywine. The Giants lost game one 11-3, but dominated the second game with a 13-0 shutout win Thursday afternoon at the Maplezone Sports Institute.
Keystone finished the year with a 6-21 record (4-12 United East).
Game One: Keystone 3, Penn State Brandywine 11 (5 inn.)
After tallying one run in the first, Brandywine dropped seven runs in the second off a throwing error and multiple base hits.
The Giants scored three runs in the third off an Angelina Morley (Deposit, N.Y./Deposit) two-run double followed by an Isabella Benitez (East Windsor, N.J./Hightstown) RBI single.
The Nittany Lions scored one run in the fourth with an infield single and closed out the contest with two-run double in the fifth for the eight-run rule win.
Morley and Benitez both went 2-for-3 at the dish. Julia Gorel (Carbondale, Pa./Carbondale Area) took the loss in the circle as she pitched a complete game with a strikeout. She gave up 11 runs (nine earned) off 11 hits.
Game Two: Keystone 13, Penn State Brandywine 0 (5 inn.)
Keystone used an 11-run fourth inning to propel the squad to the mercy run-rule win. They added two more runs in the fifth. Â
Sam Ratti (Brodheadsville, Pa./Pleasant Valley) went 4-for-4 with an RBI. Hanaje Riley (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) tallied three hits with three runs scored. Isabella Mandarano (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore), Kiara Taylor (Berlin, Md./Decatur), and Emily Schultz (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) notched two base knocks.
Benitez started the second game and pitched five scoreless innings. She struck out two batters and gave up four hits.
