EDWARDSVILLE, Pa.- The Keystone College baseball team kicked off the United East Conference Championship weekend with a 6-2 win over Cairn University Friday afternoon at Bruggeworth Field.
Keystone tallied three runs in the second off two RBI singles and a fielder's choice. They scored once in the third off another fielder's choice.
The Giants would not score again until the sixth inning with another one-run single. Cairn finally broke the shutout with an RBI single, and Keystone responded in the bottom half with a SAC fly.
The Highlanders added one run in the ninth, but the Giants were able to seal the victory.
Darren Hagan went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Carlos Pascual (Paterson, N.J./International) and Nate Ewing (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) both had two hits. Cooper Fesh (Bethel, Conn./Bethel) also had two RBI on the day. Sean Brennan (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) almost tossed a complete game as he went 8.2 innings with four strikeouts. He gave up two earned runs off five hits.
Keystone (33-9) will face the winner of St. Mary's (Md.)/Penn State Harrisburg tomorrow at Christy Mathewson Field.
