NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Keystone College softball team wrapped up its spring break trip on Thursday, falling to Hilbert in a doubleheader.
The Giants return north and play at Saint Elizabeth University on Tuesday, March 24.
Game One: Hilbert 9, Keystone 1
The Giants scattered five hits in the opener, as Emily Schultz (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) went 2-for-2 at the plate. Shalimar Lopez Ramirez (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) notched a base knock.
Jordan Chabreck (Lacombe, La./Lakeshore) tallied a double in the fifth and scored the team's lone run, thanks to an RBI groundout by Amaia Smith (Berlin, N.J./Overbrook).
Smith suffered the defeat, striking out one while forcing seven groundouts and six flyouts.
Game Two: Hilbert 16, Keystone 7
The nightcap featured 23 runs and 30 hits, as Keystone finished with 13 hits as a team.
Schultz went 3-for-5 while Isabella Benitez (East Windsor, N.J./Hightstown) and Lopez Ramirez each finished with two hits. Clara Sandly (Taylor, Pa./Riverside) notched two RBI. Chabreck finished 2-for-4 with one run driven in.
Aimee Lyons (Ajax, ON/Pickering) earned the start, going 4.2 innings with two strikeouts, six flyouts and six groundouts. Smith appeared in relief and struck out one with four groundouts and three flyouts.
