Baseball Stays Perfect in United East Play, Take Down Penn State Berks in Doubleheader

LA PLUME, PA- The Giants remained perfect in United East play following a dominating doubleheader sweep over Penn State Berks. Keystone's senior day proved successful as KC took down the Lions 12-2 in both contests.

Game One: (Keystone 12, Penn State 2)

The Giants pitching unit remained spectacular through game one against the Lions, as Cooper Ryan (State College, Pa./State College Area) did not allow a Penn State hit until the fifth inning of play. Ryan finished his day following the sixth inning. He finished the day allowing just three hits and one run to the Lions.

The Giants offense sparked first in the contest, when Jonathan Santiago (Dunnellon, Fla./Citrus Springs) doubled to left field, scoring Ray Moreta (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield). Ethan Schimony (State College, Pa./State College Area) sent a sacrifice fly out to the right field, scoring Santiago later in the frame. Keystone once more struck in the third, knocking in four runs. Benny Hess (Reading, Ohio/Reading Community) grounded out to second base, scoring Dee Rice (Spartanburg, S.C./Dorman). Carlos Pascual (Paterson, N.J./International) crossed home plate on a called balk, with Dillion Bird (Westlake, La./Sulphur) singling to left field for the two final runs of the inning.

Carlos Pascual (Paterson, N.J./International) added to the Giants run total in the fourth inning, singling up the middle to score Erick Castro (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) and Ethan Schimony (State College, Pa./State College Area).The Lions tacked their first run of the game in the sixth inning. Dee Rice (Spartanburg, S.C./Dorman) continued his spectacular batting, singling to left center in the sixth, scoring Dillion Bird (Westlake, La./Sulphur).

The seventh inning proved to be enough for the Giants as Dante Ruby (Archbald, Pa./Valley View), Jonathan Santiago (Dunnellon, Fla./Citrus Springs), and Dillion Bird (Westlake, La./Sulphur) all scored, giving KC the game one win 12-2.

Game Two: (Keystone 12, Penn State 2)

The first inning saw the Giants score their first run of the game when Benny Hess (Reading, Ohio/Reading Community) singled to right field,scoring Dante Ruby (Archbald, Pa./Valley View). The Lions answered rtight away in the second inning, scoring the tying run.

Keystone regained the lead in the second inning though, knocking in two runs off a Dee Rice (Spartanburg, S.C./Dorman) single to right center. Ethan Schimony (State College, Pa./State College Area) asnd Dillion Bird (Westlake, La./Sulphur) both scored on the play.

Bird doubled down the left field line scoring both Ray Moreta (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) and Dante Ruby (Archbald, Pa./Valley View), before Ethan Schimony (State College, Pa./State College Area) tripled to right center, scoring Bird to take the 6-1 lead in the third.

Penn State tacked on their second run of the game in the fourth. Schimony singled up the middle in the fifth inning scoring Ray Moreta (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield), pushing the Giants lead back to five.

Dante Ruby (Archbald, Pa./Valley View) singled through the left side in the sixth, scoring Dee Rice (Spartanburg, S.C./Dorman). Ruby, amd Benny Hess (Reading, Ohio/Reading Community) both scored later in the inning to take the 10-2 lead.

Ethan Schimony (State College, Pa./State College Area) scored in the seventh inning to push the lead to nine, but the Giants were unable to close out the contest until the eighth. Benny Hess (Reading, Ohio/Reading Community) scored on a game deciding balk, giving the Giants the 12-2 win to remained undefeated in United East Conference play.

The Giants remain at home on April 21 as they welcome The College of New Jersey, with SUNY Cobleskill coming to Christy Mathewson Field on April 22.
