MEDIA, PA- Dary Hodge-Davila (Riverview, FL/Riverview) contributed a goal and an assist, Lenskey Raoul (Neptune Township, NJ/Neptune) added a late goal and Kolten McVean (Dickinson, TX/Dickinson) recorded a shutout as the Keystone College men's soccer team defeated Penn State Brandywine 2-0 Tuesday afternoon at Brandywine Field.
The Giants scored once in each half and finished with a 26-5 advantage in shots, including a 14-2 edge in shots on goal. Keystone also earned nine corner kicks while improving to 4-5-1 overall and 2-0 in United East Conference play.
Hodge-Davila put Keystone ahead in the seventh minute, and Raoul doubled the lead with just under four minutes remaining. McVean made one save in each half and played all 90 minutes to secure the shutout.
Keystone created opportunities immediately, with John Covert (Union Beach, NJ/Keyport) putting two shots on goal within the opening 28 seconds. The Giants earned their first corner kick moments later and continued to push forward. Aiden Cummings (Baltimore, MD/Mount Saint Joseph) struck the crossbar at 5:32, followed by another Keystone corner.
Marcos Louzada (Guacui, Espirito Santo, Brazil/The Webb School) placed a shot on target at 6:36 before Hodge-Davila found the back of the net seven seconds later. The unassisted finish at 6:43 gave the Giants an early 1-0 lead.
Keystone continued generating chances throughout the half. Cummings had an attempt blocked in the 10th minute, while Covert put shots on goal at 11:19 and 20:21. McVean made his first save at 24:59 to preserve the advantage.
The Giants received additional offensive contributions from the bench before halftime. Johan Fernandez (Decatur, AL/Decatur) tested the goalkeeper with a shot in the 34th minute, and Joel Calle (Hicksville, NY/Hicksville) followed with an attempt on target less than a minute later. Fernandez added another shot on goal at 40:10, while Raoul forced a save at 43:35.
Keystone entered the break ahead 1-0 after recording 15 shots, including 10 on goal, and five corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes.
The Giants added 11 shots and four corners in the second half. Cummings registered five attempts after the break, including a shot on goal at 68:05. Covert and Calle also contributed attempts as Keystone worked to extend its lead.
McVean made his second save at 70:03, protecting the one-goal margin. Keystone's defensive unit, which included starters Loui Arellano (Winchester, TN/The Webb School of Bell Buckle), Chris Roca (Palisades Park, NJ/Palisades Park), Barrett Wood (Norfolk, VA/Matthew Fontaine Maury) and Ethan Eccleston (Chandler, AZ/Hamilton), helped limit the hosts to two shots in the second half.
Raoul put another attempt on goal at 77:42 before providing the insurance goal in the closing minutes. Hodge-Davila returned to the field at 80:42 and connected with Raoul for the finish at 86:02, giving Keystone a 2-0 advantage. Wood followed with a shot on goal 36 seconds later as the Giants remained active offensively through the final minutes.
Cummings led Keystone with eight shots, while Covert finished with seven attempts, including four on goal. Raoul recorded four shots and three on target in addition to his goal. Fernandez put both of his attempts on goal, and Calle added two shots, including one on target. Louzada, Hodge-Davila and Wood each registered a shot on goal.
