LA PLUME, PA- The Keystone College men's soccer team battled for 90 minutes Saturday evening, falling to Misericordia University, 2-0, at the Keystone Turf Field and Track Complex.
The Giants and Cougars played through a scoreless opening half, with Keystone goalkeeper James Kallens (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central Regional) making several key saves to keep the visitors off the scoreboard. Keystone remained organized defensively while working to create opportunities of its own during the opening 45 minutes.
Misericordia applied pressure early, but Kallens turned aside three shots during the first half, helping Keystone enter halftime still within striking distance.
The Giants continued to compete throughout the second half, with Kallens again providing a strong presence in goal. Keystone's defensive effort kept the Cougars within reach as the match remained scoreless well into the second half.
Misericordia eventually broke through in the 73rd minute when Reese Dieffenderfer found the back of the net to give the Cougars a 1-0 advantage.
Keystone continued to battle in an effort to equalize, but Misericordia added a second goal in the 84th minute when Brody Eisenhart scored off an assist from Joshua Majekodunmi.
Kallens finished the evening with 10 saves, helping the Giants remain competitive throughout the contest. Misericordia finished with 18 shots, while Keystone recorded one shot on the evening.
The Giants head on the road for a three game road trip, beginning with Pratt Institute on September 8, followed by Elmira College on September 12, wrapping up the trip on September 16 against Penn State Schuylkill.
