KEUKA PARK, NY- The Keystone College women's volleyball team battled through a pair of four-set matches Saturday at the Keuka Invitational, falling to host Keuka College, 3-1, before dropping a 3-1 decision to Hilbert College at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center.
The Giants opened the day against Keuka, taking the second set in convincing fashion, 25-8, before the Wolves answered to take the match, 25-15, 8-25, 25-20, 25-19. Keystone finished the match with 30 kills and a .135 hitting percentage.
Isabella Buonopane (Wake Forest, N.C./Archbishop Williams) led the Giants offensively with 11 kills, while Nakaya Cridge (New Castle, IN/South Henry School Corporation) delivered an efficient performance with five kills on eight attacks without an error for a .625 hitting percentage. Aliya Noriega (Anchorage, AK/West Anchorage) added three kills and four block assists, while Madison Woods (Camrose, Alberta, Canada/Ecole Camrose Composite) contributed four kills and two block assists.
Naema Alatorre (Brownsville, TX/Idea Frontier) helped direct the Keystone offense with seven assists while adding two service aces and seven digs. Nat Reyes (Lamont, CA/Arvin) added eight digs, while Sydney Frasier (Loveland, CO/Thompson Valley) recorded seven digs and a service ace.
Keystone carried that momentum into its second match of the day against Hilbert.
The Giants battled back to take the second set, 25-15, after Hilbert claimed the opening frame, 25-11. The Hawks ultimately secured the match with 25-21 and 25-17 victories in the final two sets.
Hannah Ely (Wyalusing, PA/Wyalusing Valley Jr./Sr.) paced Keystone with seven kills while adding 12 digs and two service aces. Woods finished with seven kills, while Nakaya Cridge (New Castle, IN/South Henry School Corporation) added four kills.
Victoria Crampton (Cold Lake, Alberta, Canada/Assumption Jr./Sr.) anchored the Giants defensively with a team-high 17 digs. Alatorre recorded seven assists and a service ace, while Anna Johnson (Niles, MI/Niles) contributed 11 assists, six digs and two service aces.
The Giants return to action on September 8 as the team heads to Wilkes University aiming to clinch their first win of the season.
