Chris Summa enters his first season as Keystone College’s head volleyball coach in 2017 after being tabbed to lead the Giants on August 1, 2017. Summa brings more than a decade’s worth of volleyball experience including outstanding coaching stints at nearby Marywood University and North Pocono High School.
In his first season at Keystone in 2017, Summa led the Giants to 14-17 overall record on the season including a 9-3 mark in Colonial States Athletic Conference play. The Giants earned the #4 seed in the CSAC playoffs to secure a home match in the first round of the postseason tournament. Keystone advanced to the CSAC semifinals for the third-straight year with a thrilling, five-set win over Immaculata University in the first round before falling to second-seeded Neumann University in th semifinal round. Following the season, sophomores Malley Bowen and Amanda Hardy were selected to the Honorable Mention All-CSAC team.
Summa spent three seasons as the head coach of Marywood, leading the Pacers to 40 wins and a 20-14 record in Colonial States Athletic Conference play. Summa guided Marywood to back-to-back CSAC semifinal appearances in the 2010 and 2011 seasons and the Pacers earned their first-ever ECAC South Region Tournament bid in 2011.
Summa was also previously the head coach of North Pocono’s girls’ and boys’ teams, leading the Trojans girls’ squad from 2004-2006 and again from 2012-2014 while guiding the boys’ team from 2005-2010. Summa led the North Pocono boys to five PIAA District II championships and three Wyoming Valley Conference titles in his six seasons at the helm.
Summa is also registered as a PIAA volleyball official and officiated the District II championship match in each of the past three years. In 2016, he presented “Ball Handling Violations” at the PIAA Convention for volleyball officials.
Summa has been active for the sport of volleyball in the media as well, serving as the lead color commentator for local televised matches on WNEP-TV, WQMY-TV and on NPF Sports internet radio. He also runs a podcast on Echo From the Valley.
Prior to become a head coach, Summa was an assistant coach at North Pocono for three seasons and spent two seasons as an assistant at Abington Heights High School. He was also an assistant football coach at Pittston Area High School and North Pocono, spending two years with both programs.
Summa was recently named the Director of Technology for the Abington Heights School District after spending 16 years as the Assistant Technology Coordinator for the North Pocono School District.
