Justin Stern was selected the head men’s basketball coach at Keystone College in April 2025, bringing a proven record of success at the NCAA Division III level as both a head coach and assistant.
Stern arrived at Keystone following a second stint as an assistant coach at Oswego State during the 2024–25 season. The Lakers finished 17–9 overall, went 13–5 in SUNYAC play, and earned a berth in the SUNYAC Tournament.
Prior to Oswego, Stern served as an assistant coach at Morrisville State College during the 2023–24 campaign. That season, the Mustangs’ coaching staff was named North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Staff of the Year, while Morrisville captured the NAC West regular-season title. The Mustangs led the conference in scoring (88.4 points per game), field goal percentage (.470), and assists per game (18.72), establishing one of the most efficient offenses in the league.
Stern previously spent seven seasons as the head men’s basketball coach at Cazenovia College from 2016–23. He compiled the second-most wins and the second-best winning percentage in program history. His teams earned three NCAA Tournament appearances, won three conference championships, and his coaching staff received three conference staff of the year honors.
In his first tenure at Oswego State, Stern helped guide the program to two NCAA Tournament appearances, a SUNYAC championship, and the first Sweet 16 appearance in school history.
Stern began his collegiate coaching career at Morrisville State, where he helped improve the team’s record from 12–13 to 19–9. The Mustangs won the North East Athletic Conference championship for the first time in program history and secured the school’s first NCAA Tournament berth.
He later served as an assistant coach at Nazareth University, where the Golden Flyers posted a combined 34–18 record during his time on staff.
At the high school level, Stern spent two seasons at Jamesville-DeWitt High School, helping lead the program to two state championships and a combined 48–4 record. He has also worked extensively at summer camps and through individual player development training.
A native of Dewitt, N.Y., Stern played two seasons of collegiate basketball at Keuka College before graduating in 2010 with a degree in education studies. He also competed for two seasons at Onondaga Community College, helping the team win a conference championship. Stern was named NJCAA Player of the Week in February 2007 and earned Mid-State Athletic Conference all-star honors.
Stern played basketball and baseball at Jamesville-DeWitt High School, where he was an all-league selection in basketball and a member of an undefeated state championship team during the 2003–04 season.
