Meletiche selected as pre-season All-American

O'Brien and Frost also pick up recognition

La Plume, PA (1-20-11) - Keystone College's Esteban Meletiche has been named a First Team selection on the 2011 D3baseball pre-season All-American Team.

In addition to his All-American selection, Meletiche has also  been selected as 2011 NCAA Division III player to watch as chosen by Division III baseball coaches and announced by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.  Two other Keystone players, Blaine O'Brien and Jeff Frost, are also included on the players to watch list.

Meletiche, a junior from Philadelphia, PA, was the Player of the Year in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) last season, leading the Giants to a CSAC crown and their third straight trip to the NCAA Tournament.

The second baseman led the team in batting with a .411 average, in hits with 60 and in doubles with 16.  He tied for the team lead in runs scored with 48 and was third in RBI with 36.  Meletiche also added five home runs as part of the team's single season record total of 76.  He compiled a slugging percentage of .664 and an on-base percentage of .480, while swiping 14 bases in 16 attempts.  A solid defender, he committed just five errors in 162 chances.

O'Brien, a junior from Scituate, MA, transferred to Keystone this year from NJCAA Division I Middle Georgia College.  While in the Peach state he compiled a mark of 5-1 last season in nine outings for the 29-14 Warriors.  In 45 innings he struck out 34 while allowing 30 earned runs.  During his two year stint with the Warriors O'Brien compiled a mark of 14-2 with 94 strikeouts.

Frost, a senior from Freehold, NJ, was a Second Team All-CSAC selection following last season.  The powerful righty turned in a 5-2 mark with a team leading 1.88 earned run average.  In 42 innings pitched he allowed nine earned runs on 28 hits while striking out 53.  Frost knew how to keep opposing batters off balance, limiting hitters to a .189 batting average.

Keystone will open its 2011 slate on March 10 at Methodist University.
