Fisher ties school record in high jump; three other Giants set personal records

Collegeville, PA – Kelly Fisher (Weatherly, PA/Weatherly Area) matched a school record in the women's high jump competition, Maliek Torres won the men's 200 meter dash, and three other Giants set personal records on Saturday as Keystone College's men's and women's track & field teams opened the 2014-15 indoor season at the Bow-Tie Classic hosted by Ursinus College.
 
In addition to Fisher's school record in the high jump, Aneisha Williams (Port Jervis, NY/Port Jervis) set a personal record in the women's 60 meter dash.  On the men's side, Dan McSurdy (Ringtown, PA/North Schuylkill) established a new personal record in the 200 meter dash while Matt Cardona (Jeffersonville, NY/Sullivan West) also broke a personal record in the high jump competition.
 
The men's team finished 8th out of 19 teams after totaling 32.5 points on the day while the women's squad placed 13th out of 20 teams with 17 points.
 
Maliek Torres won the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.19 seconds, .16 seconds ahead of his closest competitor.  McSurdy finished with a personal record time of 24.25 to place 13th in the competition. 
 
Cardona and Jay Ford (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame) finished tied for fourth in the high jump competition after both clearing the bar at 5' 10", a mark that set a new personal record for Cardona.  Ford would go on to place fifth overall in the long jump with a leap of 20' 10".  Mario Careccia (Wappingers Falls, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) placed seventh in the pole vault competition with a mark of 13' 5".  Kyle Laniewski (Dickson City, PA/Mid Valley) finished 10th in preliminary round of the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.27 seconds, two spots ahead of Torres, who finished 12th with a time of 7.30 seconds. 
 
Dan Polanco (Hazlet, NJ/Mater Dei Prep) brought home an 11th place finish in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:02.18 while Jeremy Flohr (Greene, NY/Greene) added an 18th place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of  54.18 seconds.
 
The 4x200 meter relay team of Laniewski, Torres, McSurdy, and Ford placed third with a time of 1:34.76 while the 4x400 meter relay squad of Flohr, Carl Joseph (Hillside, NJ/Hillside), David Strum (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne), and Devonte Taylor (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) finished eighth after crossing the stripe in 3:40.63.
 
On women's competition, Fisher tied a school record in the women's high jump competition with a leap of 4' 9.75" to place 11th in the event while matching the program-record mark set by Sadie Allen in 2007. 
 
Saviana Jocelyn (Brooklyn, NY/East Stroudsburg South) took home a fourth place result in the 60 meter dash after crossing the finish line in 8.12 seconds while Williams clocked a personal record time of 8.49 seconds to place 20th in the preliminary round.  Jocelyn would got on to finish 6th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.55 seconds while Williams also placed sixth in the triple jump competition with a mark of 32' 7". 
 
In the 500 meter dash, Tameka Wood (Bronx, NY/DeWitt Clinton ) placed eighth with a time of 1:34.14 while Alexa Jefferis (Shenandoah, PA/Shenandoah Valley) was 11th in the race.  Kiersten Hollister, who placed ninth in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 7' 0.25", also added a 10th place result in the 200 meter dash.  Nicole Delevan (Forty Fort, PA/Wyoming Valley West) brought home an 11th place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:06.38 while Wood placed 13th in the event with a mark of 1:07.13.
 
In the 4x200 meter relay, Keystone placed fourth after Deja Mitchell, Jocelyn, Hollister, and Rachael Orduson (Irvington, NJ/Science Park) combined to post a time of 1:53.27.
 
Keystone will next compete at the Houghton College Invitational on Saturday, January 24th in Houghton, New York.
