Results Collegeville, PA – Keystone College's men's track & field team opened the indoor season with a strong showing at the Bow Tie Classic hosted by Ursinus College on Saturday. The Giants posted six new personal records and, combined with the women's team, also posted 15 marks that rank in the top-10 of the respective events in program history.
Jason Kramer (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) set a pair of personal records to lead Keystone, breaking personal marks in the 60 meter hurdles and in the triple jump. Also establishing new personal records on Saturday for the Giants were
John Ciccone (Moscow, PA/North Pocono) (800 meter run),
Kyle Steiner (Sugarloaf, PA/Hazleton Area) (1 mile run),
Alex Taylor (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) (shot put), and
Maleik Torres (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) (60 meter dash).
Marcus Ward (Scranton, PA/Scranton) finished second in the 1000 meter run with a time of 2:48.12 while Ciccone's personal-best time of 2:03.24 was good for sixth place in the 800 meter run.
Omar Arrieta (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) (23
rd) and
David Strum (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) (25
th) also scored top-25 finishes in the event. Ciccone went on to finish second in the 5000 meter run with a time of 15:59.78 while Ward was fourth in the race.
Mario Careccia (Wappingers Falls, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) finished third in the pole vault competition with a mark of 12'11.5" while
Elijah Case (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg) placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 21'0.5".
Matt Butler (Branchville, NJ/High Point Regional) added an 18
th place finish in the long jump. Taylor's personal record throw of 32'1" in the shot put was good for 18
th place while
James Razzano (West Lawn, PA/Wilson) finished 20
th in the competition.
Kramer brought home an 11
th place result in the 60 meter hurdles prelims with a personal record mark of 10.68 seconds before taking sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 39'10".
Devonte Taylor (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) added an eighth place finish in the triple jump for the Giants. Taylor tied for fifth in the high jump by clearing the bar at 5'4.25" while Butler placed eighth in the event.
Torres finished eighth in the preliminary round of the 60 meter dash with a personal record time of 7.24 seconds while
Kyle Laniewski (Dickson City, PA/Mid Valley) followed in 10
th place in the race. Steiner finished 18
th in the one mile run with a personal record mark of 5:09.03.
Kareem Mickens (Brooklyn, NY/Jim Thorpe Area) led four Keystone runners in the top-25 of the 400 meter run dash, clocking a time of 53.80 seconds to place 13
th in the field while
Jeremy Flohr (Greene, NY/Greene) (20
th),
Carl Joseph (Hillside, NJ/Hillside) (21
st), and
David Strum (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) (24
th) were also in the top-25.
Keystone's 4x200 meter relay team of Laniewski, Torres,
Marcus Daniels (Ewing, NJ/Ewing), and
Dan McSurdy (Ringtown, PA/North Schuylkill) finished fourth out of 14 teams with a time of 1:35.47 while the 4x400 meter relay squad of Ciccone, Mickens, Flohr, and
David Strum (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) placed sixth out of 17 teams with a mark of 3:39.68.
Keystone will next compete in the Ramapo College Indoor Select Meet on Saturday, January 30 at the New York City Armory.
