ResultsGwynedd Valley, PA – Keystone College's men's and women's track & field teams ended the 2014 in style on Sunday at the Colonial States Athletic Conference Invitational hosted by Gwynedd Mercy University as the men finished first while the women claimed second on the day. The Giants' squads combined to win eight individual events, break three school records, set 32 personal records, and establish 33 marks that rank among the top-10 all-time in program history on their most successful day of the season.
Men's Competition Keystone's men's team scored 217 points to finish first among conference schools for the second-straight year and won five events on the day:
Zachary Steen (Trenton, NJ/Bordentown Regional) (hammer throw and discus),
Maleik Torres (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) (high jump and 100 meter dash), and
Mario Careccia (Wappingers Falls, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) (pole vault)
The Giants' men's squad also posted 20 personal records on the day: Torres (long jump, 100 meter dash, and 200 meter dash), Careccia (javelin and pole vault), Steen (shot put),
Alex Taylor (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) (hammer throw and javelin),
Arcadio Kearney (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) (long jump and 110 meter hurdles),
Devonte Taylor (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) (long jump and triple jump),
Jason Kramer (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) (triple jump and 400 meter hurdles),
Terry Duncan (Monticello, NY/Monticello) (100 meter dash and 200 meter dash),
Jonathan Brand (Eatontown, NJ/Monmouth Regional) (400 meter dash),
Kyle Steiner (Sugarloaf, PA/Hazleton Area) (400 meter hurdles),
David Strum (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) (800 meter run), and
John Ciccone (Covington Township, PA/North Pocono) (1500 meter run).
Careccia claimed first place in the pole vault competition with a mark of 4.27 meters while Steen won the hammer throw with a heave of 34.60 meters and the discus throw with a mark of 37.92 meters.
Alex Taylor (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) placed third and
Alexander Trujillo (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley) added a sixth-place result in the hammer throw while
Alex Taylor (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) also finished seventh in the discus competition. Steen went on to finish sixth in the shot put with a mark of 11.24 meters while
Alex Taylor (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) added a ninth place result in the event.
Torres won the high jump competition after clearing the bar at 1.80 meters while
Josh Etheridge (Eagleville, PA/Methacton) (3
rd),
Matt Cardona (Jeffersonville, NY/Sullivan West) and Kearney (tie-5
th), and
Devonte Taylor (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) (7
th) each added top-10 finishes in the competition. Torres also won the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.13 seconds and was joined in the top-eight in the race by
Kyle Laniewski (Dickson City, PA/Mid Valley) (5
th) and Duncan (7
th).
Torres also brought home a runner-up finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.39 meters while Kearney (3
rd), Etheridge (7
th), Cardona (9
th), and
Devonte Taylor (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) (10
th) all placed within the top-10. The Giants also swept spots two through four in the 110 meter hurdles led by race runner-up Kearny, who clocked in at 16.72 seconds and was followed by
Dan McSurdy (Ringtown, PA/North Schuylkill) (3
rd) and Kramer (4
th).
Keystone placed five competitors in the top-10 of the triple jump field led by Torres, who posted a mark of 12.66 meters while Kramer (3
rd),
Devonte Taylor (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) (4
th), Cardona (6
th), and Etheridge (9
th) also finished in the top-10. The Giants also claimed five of the top-10 spots in the 400 meter dash led by Wali Abullah, who finished second after crossing the stripe in 51.71 seconds.
Jeremy Flohr (Greene, NY/Greene) (4
th),
Carl Joseph (Hillside, NJ/Hillside) (6
th), Brand (9
th), and Steiner (10
th) also finished in the top-10 in the race.
Kearney led four Giants in the top-seven of the javelin throw competition, bringing home a third place finish after recording a mark of 48.65 meters.
Alex Taylor (Scranton, PA/West Scranton), Steen, and Careccia swept positions five through seven, respectively. Another four Giants finished in the top-10 of the 200 meter dash paced by Torres's time of 22.56 seconds which was good for second overall and followed by Duncan (3
rd), Joseph (6
th), and Laniewski (7
th).
In the 400 meter hurdles, Keystone swept places two through four led by McSurdy's runner-up finish and mark of 1:03.72 while Steiner and Kramer placed third and fourth in the event, respectively. Ciccone finished second in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:03.22, just over two seconds better than fourth place finisher Strum. Ciccone's personal-best time of 4:13.41 was good for third in the 1500 meter run while
Dan Polanco (Hazlet, NJ/Mater Dei Prep) (5
th) and
Rich Hardy (Boothwyn, PA/Chichester) (8
th) also added top-10 results in the event. The same trio also added top-10 finishes in the 5000 meter run led Polanco's time of 18:13.88 which was good for fourth in the field while Ciccone placed fifth and Hardy seventh in the race.
Keystone placed second in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 42.97 while the Giants' 4x400 meter relay squad also enjoyed a runner-up finished after clocking in at 3:28.96.
Women's Competition Keystone's women's team totaled 134 points on the day to bring home a runner-up finish, ending the day just five points off a second-straight first place result. The Giants posted three school records on the day:
Nicole Delevan (Forty Fort, PA/Wyoming Valley West) (400 meter dash),
Saviana Jocelyn (Brooklyn, NY/East Stroudsburg South) (100 meter dash), and the 4x400 meter relay team and won three events on the day: Delevan (400 meter dash),
Aneisha Williams (Port Jervis, NY/Port Jervis) (triple jump), and
Samantha Donahue (Taylor, PA/Riverside) (100 meter hurdles),
Additionally, Keystone's women's team posted 12 personal records on the day: Delevan (400 meter dash and 200 meter dash),
Ronalesia Adams (Irvington, NJ/Irvington) (high jump and triple jump),
Kirsten Hollister (Elk Lake, PA/Elk Lake) (shot put and discus), Donahue (long jump), Jocelyn (100 meter dash),
Jackie Nat (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Coughlin) (high jump),
Rachael Orduson (Irvington, NJ/Science Park) (triple jump and 100 meter dash), and
Tameka Wood (Bronx, NY/DeWitt Clinton ) (400 meter dash),
Williams won the triple with a school-record leap of 10.85 meters while Adams (2
nd) and Orduson (4
th) also added top-five finishes in the event for the Giants. In the 100 meter dash, three Giants recorded top-eight finishes in the finals with Jocleyn's mark of 12.70 seconds good for third in the race. Orduson finished fifth in the field while Williams was seventh in the race.
Donahue won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 18.24 seconds while Delevan claimed the 400 meter dash title by crossing the finish line in a school-record 1:00.34. Wood collected a third-place result in the 400 meter dash which also marked a new personal best while Donahue also added a sixth place result in the 400 meter hurdles after running a time of 1:29.84.
Four Keystone runners finished in the top-10 of the 200 meter dash paced by Jocelyn, the runner-up in the race, who clocked in at 26.25 seconds and was followed by Delevan (5
th),
Raisha Piper (Hanover Twp., PA/Hanover Area) (7
th), and Orduson (10
th).
Keystone swept spots three through five in the high jump competition led by Donahue's mark of 1.35 meters to finish ahead of fourth-place finisher Adams and fifth-place competitor Nat. In the long jump, the Giants claimed spots two through four, led by
Deja Monique Mitchell (Scranton/West Scranton)'s mark of 4.41 meters which was good for a runner-up finish was followed by Orduson (3
rd) and Adams (4
th) while Donahue (7
th) and Nat (8
th) added top-10 results as well.
Hollister was the runner-up in the pole vault competition after clearing the bar at 2.58 meters and finished one spot ahead of Wood in the event. Hollister also finished fourth in the hammer throw with a toss of 16.64 meters, one spot ahead of Mitchell. Hollister's mark of 23.38 meters in the discus was also good for fourth place in the event while Mitchell finished eighth in the competition. Hollister brought home a sixth-place result in the shot put with a mark of 7.53 meters and eighth in the javelin with throw that measured in at 22.17 meters.
The Giants' 4x400 meter relay team finished second in the race with a school-record mark of 4:11.22.
