Field hockey picks up first NCAA victory

Bryn Mawr, PA (8-31-08) - The Keystone College field hockey team picked up its first NCAA victory in just its first try as the Giants downed Bryn Mawr College 3-2 in overtime.

Keystone head coach Kacy Manning also notched her first win as a head coach.  Field hockey returned to the Keystone athletic landscape this season after a 20-year hiatus.  The last time the sport was played here the team competed at a junior college level.  The season opening win marked the NCAA debut of the sport at Keystone.

Bryn Mawr built a 2-0 lead by registering goals in each half before the Giants mounted a brilliant comeback to force overtime.

With just over one minute remaining in the game Kellie Sussman scored the team's first goal off an assist from Samantha Morgan to cut the deficit to 2-1.  Lori-Ann Marino capped off the comeback scoring an unassisted goal as time expired to force overtime.

Three minutes and fifty-nine seconds into overtime Nicole Macedonio scored off of a penalty corner to lift the Giants to victory.  Morgan recorded her second assist of the game on the game winner.

Breanna Auld stopped six shots in goal for the Giants as Keystone out-shot their opponent by a 23-10 margin.

Keystone returns to action on Wednesday September 3 when they travel to Albright College for a 7pm contest.
