Clarks Summit, PA (1-15-09) - Baptist Bible closed out the game on an 8-0 run in the last 2:42 of play to take a 76-72 CSAC decision over Keystone College in men's basketball action.
With the win Baptist Bible moved to 4-7 overall and 2-2 in the conference, while Keystone fell to 7-4, 2-2.
The Giants bounced back from an 11-point hole at 52-41 with 13:17 left to play buy putting together a 17-8 run to knot things at 56 with 8:33 to play.
Spencer Lunger (Lake Winola, PA/Tunkhannock) hit one of his five three-pointers on the night with 7:40 to play to give the Giants a three point edge. Over the next five minutes Keystone would build a 72-68 lead, thanks in part to a pair of three's from Lunger and
Tercel Taylor (Jackson, MI/Jackson).
However, the Defenders were not finished as Khristian Collins stormed back up court nearly unnoticed for a layup to close the gap to 72-60. Nathan Greve scored the next four points for BBC to put the Defenders back on top for good.
While both teams converted 27 shots each from the floor and the Giants hitting four more threes then BBC, the contest came down to the free throw line and the glass.
The Defenders out-rebounded the Giants by a 30-23 count, but it was the Defenders' accuracy from the stripe that pushed them over the top. BBC hit 85% (17-20) from the line, while Keystone hit on 60%, making only nine of their 15 attempts.
The loss also denied the Keystone men's basketball program its 1,000th all-time victory.
Lunger hit for a team high 19 points, while Taylor and
Michael Kelly (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) each added 17. Kelly and
Kenneth Hardnett (Plant City, FL/Plant City) led the team with six rebounds each.
Greve paced BBC with 19 points, one of four players in double digits.
Keystone will return to action on Saturday January 17 at 3pm when they play host St. Joseph's (NY) College.
