Giants lower the Boone on Defenders

La Plume, PA (2-17-09) - Malcolm Boone (Sugar Loaf, NY/Warwick) came up big just when his team needed him the most.  The freshman recorded a double-double with a 16-point and 10-rebound outing, but it was his six blocks that changed the course of the game as Keystone downed Baptist Bible College 65-57.

With the win the Giants move to 17-7 overall and 10-5 in the CS, while Baptist Bible falls to 10-13 and 8-8.

The victory assures the Giants of at least one home playoff game with a quarterfinal contest on Saturday.  Depending on what plays out on Thursday, the final night of the season, the Giants have a chance to draw a first round bye as the number two seed.

Boone Shot 60% from the field, which included three monster dunks as he got the Keystone crowd into the contest.  His presence in the lane resulted in several altered shots as the Giants looked to make a statement by avenging their loss to Baptist Bible earlier this season.

Michael Kelly (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) led the way for Keystone with a 17-point outing, while Tercel Taylor (Jackson, MI/Jackson) added 11.  Taylor also dished out a team high five assists.

Travis Wash had an impressive game for the Defenders as the junior netted a game high 19 points to go along with 17 rebounds, as Baptist Bible out rebounded the Giants by a 43-33 margin.

Nathan Greve added 15 for the Defenders, while Tom Waszaj  chipped in with 11.  Khristian Collins dished out a game high nine assists.

The Giants came into the contest last in the conference in free throw shooting, however, Keystone shot 77.3% (17-22) from the charity stripe as the Giants outscored Baptist Bible 17-4 from the line.

Keystone will close out its regular season on Thursday night when they play host to Gwynedd-Mercy College at 7pm.
