Second half surge lifts Cyclones over Giants

Hackettstown, NJ (2-7-09) - Centenary College broke open a tie game at the half with a 48-point second half, as the Cyclones sent the Keystone Giants to their fourth consecutive loss, 83-67.

With the win Centenary College moves to 14-6 overall and 9-3 in the CSAC, while Keystone falls to 9-11 and 4-8.

The two teams were knotted at 35 after the first twenty minutes of play, however Centenary used a distinct advantage from the free throw line as well as several miss-fires by Keystone from beyond the arc to take control.

The Cyclones converted on 19 of 23 attempts from the charity stripe, while Keystone went to the line a total of just eight times in the second half.  The Giants also had trouble hitting the three ball as they struggled hitting on only five of 18 attempts in the second half.  For the game the Giants hit on nine of 35 tries from three-point range.

Kristen Camuso paced Centenary with a game high 22 points in a game that featured six ties and six lead changes.

The free throw line was the defining factor of this game as the Cyclones went to the line 43 times, hitting on 30 attempts, while Keystone went to the stripe for just 14 tries, converting 10.

Jen Vasta added 18, with Nikki Van Tassel adding 13 points.  Van Tassel recorded a double-double by adding 14 rebounds, while Marissa DiStasio added 12 rebounds on the afternoon.  Centenary pulled in 56 for the game, while Keystone also did a fine job on the boards with 49.

Sarah Barretto led the way for Keystone with 18 points, while cleaning the glass for nine rebounds to go along with four assists and four steals.

Leah Simko hit for 11 points, while Jessica Kobesky and Melinda Moore each added 10.  

Yasmeen Bates led the Giants with 10 rebounds, while Ellen Fallon dished out a team high five assists.

Keystone will return to action on Tuesday February 10 when they host Philadelphia Biblical University at 6pm.
