Cortland, NY (4-11-09) - Angel Fargas led a 21-hit Keystone attack, as the Giants ranked 13th in the latest ABCA poll, downed #16 Cortland State 14-4 in non-conference baseball action.
With the win the Giants move to 24-4, while Cortland falls to 17-9.
Fargas turned in a 4-for-5 day with three RBI's, while
Drew Boandl and Esteban Meletiche recorded three hits each for Keystone.
Sean Brewer notched the victory, as the junior hurler worked seven innings allowing three earned runs on seven hits, while striking out three.
Ben Fish, Jayson Rohena and Ray Jackson all got into the hit parade as the trio recorded two hits each.
Eric Groff connected for a mammoth home run for his only hit of the day, as the third-baseman also scored twice.
Ryan Smyth, who belted a three-run shot, also added a dinger for the Giants. Fargas along with Donald Reese banged out doubles for the Giants.
Keystone started the second inning with four straight hits, the last a Fargas single that plated a run. The Giants however, didn't score again in the inning after a foul out and a libe drive to left turned into a double play, as COrtland grabbed a 3-1 advantage.
The Red Dragons led 3-1 after four innings before surrendering six runs in the top of the fifth. The Giants added a run in the sixth and three runs in both the seventh and ninth innings.
Keystone's six-run fifth inning featured a Kyle Conrad RBI single, a Reese run-scoring double, a two-run double by Fargas and a Boandl RBI single. Groff belted his team leading ninth hom run in the sixth. Jackson and Meletiche singled in runs in the seventh, with Smyth's blast coming in the ninth.
The Giants return to action on Monday April 13 when they travel to Marywood for a CSAC doubleheader. The Pacers and Giants return to the diamond on Tuesday for a 3pm 9-inning contest at Keystone.
