Giants break out hit parade in sweep over Marywood

Scranton, PA (4-13-09) - Thirteenth-ranked Keystone College scored 39 runs on 39 hits as the Giants took both ends of its doubleheader with Marywood University, 18-4 and 21-5.

With the sweep Keystone improves to 26-4 overall and 8-0 in the CSAC, while Marywood falls to 6-15 and 0-5 in the conference.

Keystone scored at least one run in 13 of the 14 innings played on the day.

In the opener Sean Murphy gained the win, tossing five innings of three hits ball and not allowing a run.  Murphy, who moved to 5-0 on the year, also struck out eight.

Jayson Rohena collected three hits, include a triple to pace the Giants.  Rohena also drove in two and scored three times.  Ray Jackson knocked in three on two hits and scored twice, while Eric Groff connected for his tenth home run of the year.

Esteban Meletiche added a pair of hits, while Angel Fargas drove in a pair as part of the Giants 15-hit attack.

Game two provided much of the same for Keystone as the Giants banged out 24 hits.  Brett Repard went five innings to move his mark to 6-0 on the year.  Repard allowed three runs on five hits while striking out seven.

Ryan Smyth, Josh Hinkle and Groff paced the Giants with four hit games, as Smyth also homered for the Giants.  One of game two's highlights came via the long ball, as Kyle Conrad connected for a second inning grand slam.

Smyth joined Conrad by knocking in four, while Ben Fish and Hinkle each added three RBI's.  Groff added triple in the contest, while Rohena, Hinkle and Jimmy Ferraro each added a double.  Donald Reese knocked out a pair of two-baggers.

Keystone and Marywood return to the diamond on April 14 at Keystone to complete their three-game series, game time is 3pm.
