La Plume, PA (4-22-09) - Jayson Rohena scored from second base on a throwing error with two out in the bottom of the ninth inning as Keystone College ran its winning streak to 19 games with a 9-8 victory over Cortland State.
The Giants, who are ranked fifth in the nation in the ABCA/Collegiate Baseball Poll and 14th in the D3baseball.com Poll, moved to 31-4 overall, while Cortland falls to 22-11.
The victory also kept the Giants perfect at home with a 13-0 mark.
Hard luck loser J.J. Potrikus suffered the loss for the Red Dragons, while Sean Brewer picked up his fifth victory of the year against two losses in relief.
Potrikus started the ninth by striking out the first two batters he faced before allowing a two out single to Rohena. Rohena eventually stole second to move into scoring position.
Drew Boandl worked the count full before grounding to shortstop Andrew Pezzuto in what looked to be the third out, however Pezzuto's throw went wide of the first base bag allowing Boandl to reach and Rohena to score.
Ben Fish provided the long ball for Keystone, twice leaving the yard with a pair of solo shots. Kyle Conrad doubled as part of his three hit, three RBI day. Boandl also picked up a pair of singles.
Brewer worked three and two-thirds allowing four runs on four hits on his to the win.
Steve Nickel doubled twice as part of a three hit day for the Red Dragons, while also knocking in two. Jason Simone add a pair of hits for Cortland.
The Red Dragons started strong by jumping out to a 4-0 lead after two and a half innings, by scoring one in the first and three in the second. A Conrad double in the bottom half of third scored Ray Jackson for Keystone's first run.
The Giants chipped away with another run in the fourth on Fish's first homer of the game. The Giants would gain their first lead with a five run sixth. Fish led off with a walk and after a Rohena fielder's choice came around to score on a Boandl base hit. Jackson followed with an infield single to score another run. After a sacrifice fly by Esteban Meletiche, Conrad followed up with a two RBI double.
After extending the lead to 8-4 after seven innings, the Giants saw Cortland score four times in the eight inning on three hits to knot things up before Keystone's dramatic ninth.
The Giants return to action on Friday at 3pm when they play host to Philadelphia Biblical University in the team's regular season finale.
