La Plume, PA (4-3-09) - Josh Hinkle scored on a passed ball with nobody out in the bottom of the ninth inning, as Keystone College downed Centenary College 8-7 in CSAC baseball action.
With the victory the Giants move to 19-4 and 4-0, while Centenary falls to 8-10 and 4-3.
Hinkle led off the bottom of the ninth with a walk and advanced to third on a
Drew Boandl bunt single, before crossing for the winning run.
Boandl picked up three of Keystone's 13 hits on the day, while adding two runs scored and an RBI. Hinkle,
Ryan Smyth and Esteban Meletiche all added two hits each with Hinkle and Meletiche recording doubles. Kyle Conrad led the Giants with three RBI's.
Gil Vazquez earned the win in relief going two-thirds of an inning. Keystone held a 7-3 lead heading into the ninth inning, but a two-out bases loaded throwing error cleared the bases allowing the Cyclones to even things up. The throwing error cost Sean Brewer a chance at a win, as he worked seven innings and did not allow an earned run, while striking out 11 for the Giants.
Keystone jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second thanks in part to back-to-back home runs by Smyth and Donald Reese. After the Cyclones closed the gap to 3-2 in the fourth, the Giants put up a two spot in the fifth and two more in the seventh.
The Giants and and Cyclones will get back at it tomorrow, when Keystone visits New Jersey for a noon doubleheader.
